Update on Salaries and Retro-Payments – Jan 26, 2023
From Angel Miller, AVP of Financial Operations and Controller

This is a follow-up to the memos you received on November 22, 2022, and December 21, 2022. As you know from previous memos the Department of Administration (DOA) was inundated with salary and position changes.

As of January 1, 2023, the payroll department had all the necessary paperwork for the DOA except for four employees, to complete the paperwork for raises. URI’s Human Resources Department is working with the DOA to ensure that the remaining four employees are processed in time for our payroll department to create the necessary paperwork in order to have all active employees paid on February 17, 2023.

As of Jan 26, 2023, there are 91 active employees who haven’t received their raises. Of the 91, 74 were submitted to DOA and they will receive their raise on February 3, 2023. The remainder 17 employees will receive their raises on February 17, 2023. We will continue to work with PSA and PTAA leadership to resolve all pay raises.

Please note: If this situation is causing you financial hardship you can reach out to me personally at angela_miller@uri.edu and I can provide you with a short-term loan. This will be in complete confidentiality. If you have any questions regarding raises, please contact: Cheryl Glennon 401-874-5203 or cglennon@uri.edu or bghigliotty@uri.edu

Students First Fund Donation & Community Support

The URI PSA Political Action Committee (PAC) donated $3,585.73 to the Students First Fund, which was established to provide additional emergency support to eligible URI students with demonstrated financial need. We hope we can continue to support important community programs. Please connect with your area representative to bring forward new ideas for supporting our community.

About Retention Stipends

URI PSA Executive Committee is aware of the “retention stipends” being distributed and reported in various ways through the media. Upon consulting with URI PSA/NEARI legal team and URI Human Resources, we were informed that “PSA is not a ‘state employee bargaining unit’. PSA is a bargaining unit whose members are employed by The URI Board of Trustees.”  The committee will provide additional information and updates once they become available.
