{"id":2043,"date":"2020-04-15T19:56:45","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T19:56:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pss\/?page_id=2043"},"modified":"2026-03-12T17:27:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-12T17:27:14","slug":"disposals","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pss\/disposals\/","title":{"rendered":"Disposals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:38%\"><a class=\"cl-button   prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pss\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1692\/new-disposal_3.11.26.pdf\" title=\"\">DISPOSAL WORK ORDER<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:62%\">\n<p>All equipment disposals are processed through our facility by completing a work order.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">COMPUTERS<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After the work order is processed, the computer will be picked up by Astro Movers, brought to the Central Receiving warehouse, and locked in a secure location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hard drive will be removed and scanned into a spreadsheet on google drive as well as the device serial number (SN) and the date the device and hard drive were destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The hard drives are destroyed in Central Receiving&#8217;s facility with a hard drive punch operated by the Central Receiving staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need a copy of the document for proof that your device(s) has been destroyed, please submit that request when you submit the work order and the Central Receiving staff will email you a copy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">HAZARDOUS MATERIALS<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Disposal of scientific equipment containing hazardous materials must also be cleared by&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ehs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Health &amp; Safety<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FREON REMOVAL<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Disposal of items containing Freon also requires an IVPO to be processed with Facilities Services (4-4060) in the amount of $35\/item for Freon removal. For more information visit <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/facilities\">Facilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">E-WASTE<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Need instructions for disposal of e-waste<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">FEDERAL PROPERTY<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Disposal of federal property (identified with a yellow tag and a URI#) must also be cleared by <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pss\/property-inventory\/\">Property<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SPECIAL HANDLING<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If the disposal requires special handling (ie. specialty moving crew, rigging equipment, etc.), the department will be charged to move it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All equipment disposals are processed through our facility by completing a work order.
