{"id":1410,"date":"2017-11-15T15:33:54","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T15:33:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/health-studies\/?p=1410"},"modified":"2019-01-17T16:25:47","modified_gmt":"2019-01-17T21:25:47","slug":"health-studies-grad-presents-at-apha","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/public-health\/2017\/11\/15\/health-studies-grad-presents-at-apha\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Studies graduate presents at APHA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ariana Azzoli,\u00a0 a 2017 Health graduate, presented the results of her independent study at the annual\u00a0meeting of the American Public Health Association\u00a0 (APHA) in Atlanta, GA.<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1261\/IMG_2039.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[1410]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1422 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1261\/IMG_2039-292x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"194\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ariana&#8217;s research,\u00a0conducted with Dr, Cohen, was a\u00a0 cross-sectional study using data\u00a0from the National Health and\u00a0Aging Trends study. Her study analyses revealed a significant association\u00a0between older adults with low vision and\u00a0their depression score, with the\u00a0association being stronger among\u00a0men.<\/p>\n<p>Ariana explained\u00a0that &#8220;Having the opportunity to work with Dr. Cohen with invaluable- I was able to apply methods I learned in Epidemiology and apply it to public health research involving eye care and caregiving disparities. Presenting our research at the American Public Health Association&#8217;s annual meeting exposed me to fantastic networking opportunities with people across the U.S. and\u00a0strengthened my presentation skills.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to her independent\u00a0study, Ariana was co-author on two studies with Drs.
