I came to URI because it was not too far from home, but also close to the beach, and I was offered a scholarship. Initially, I was actually a Biological Sciences major, and I switched into Public Health the second semester of my freshman year. Changing my major was one of the best decisions I made, and it widened the opportunities for my future career path.

I think I was most surprised at how close and tight knit this community is. Starting my freshman year, I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to make connections with professors because of the large class to faculty ratios. It was actually just the opposite. All of my professors that I have had here at URI, especially my Public Health professors, have been nothing short of amazing. They really truly care about each and every student in class, and they give us a tremendous amount of resources.

I had an internship with the Rhode Island Health Care Association (RIHCA) in Spring 2025, and I really enjoyed it. I worked on policy bills as well as children’s dental health month. In addition to my internship, I was involved a lot on campus. I was a BIO tutor at the Academic Enhancement Center, teaching assistant for Anatomy and Physiology I, Vice President of the Pre-Dental Club, Secretary of Delta Epsilon Mu (Pre-Health Co-Ed Fraternity), a National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) volunteer, and an undergraduate research assistant at the Kausch Lab in the Biotechnology Department. All of these leadership and extracurricular opportunities have led me to where I am today!

I think the biggest strength of being a Public Health major is that we learn so much about the population as a whole, and we get to dip our toes into diverse fields within public health. There are so many amazing professors here in the Public Health Department and just learning from them is a great opportunity.

This is going to sound so cheesy, but my favorite URI memory is all of them. I love this school so much, and I have made lifelong friendships here. There isn’t one particular memory, but just simple things like getting Brickley’s ice cream with friends or going to the beach with my roommate are fond memories that I will cherish forever.

After graduation, I am going back to Connecticut where I am starting a contracted position as a post-baccalaureate research associate at The Yale University School of Medicine MacBrain Lab. Upon completion, I plan on coming back to URI to begin the MPH program!

I think the biggest strength of being a Public Health major is that we learn so much about the population as a whole, and we get to dip our toes into diverse fields within public health.
