The investigation remains ongoing, and the individual is now facing criminal charges. No further threats to the campus community have been identified at this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University continues to take all reports of suspicious behavior seriously and encourages the community to remain vigilant. The suspect fled the area before officers arrived.&nbsp;The police department is actively investigating these incidents and will provide updates to the community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Investigation&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The URI Police Department is actively investigating these&nbsp;incidents&nbsp;and has increased patrols in the area of residence halls. Anyone with information regarding this incident is&nbsp;encouraged to contact the URI Police Department at 401-874-4910&nbsp;or submit an anonymous tip via&nbsp;401-874-TIPS&nbsp;(8477).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Safety Guidance&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Report suspicious individuals or devices in bathrooms or showers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do not tamper with suspicious devices\u2014contact police. In these instances, a cell phone was used to capture images and\/or video.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notify residence life staff or campus police if someone is loitering near shower facilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Report Information&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>URI Police:&nbsp;Call 911 for an emergency, or call&nbsp;401-874-4910&nbsp;for the routine line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anonymous tip line:&nbsp;401-874-TIPS (8477)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This&nbsp;notice&nbsp;is issued to promote safety awareness and to aid in the prevention of similar crimes. The University will update the community as more information becomes available.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2\/6\/2026: Beware of phishing scam targeting parking permits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The URI Police Department and Transportation and Parking (TAP) have recently become aware of a phishing scam targeting students\u2014particularly first-year students. In this scam, individuals claim they can secure a parking permit for the semester by adding your vehicle information to their account in exchange for payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please be aware that the only way to obtain a parking permit is by logging in with your SSO through the AIMS student portal or by contacting the TAP office directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If anyone contacts you offering a parking permit, or if you have purchased a \u201cpermit\u201d from an unknown source, please report it immediately to the URI Police Department (Det. Brasil: 401-874-5580) or TAP (401-874-9281).
