All units of the Department of Public Safety maintain strong community outreach programs available to all students, faculty, and staff. Some programs include fire extinguisher training, Make a Kit workshops, community policing events, CRASE & Stop the Bleed trainings, PALS internship program, and the Public Safety Advisory Committee among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Citizen\u2019s Response to An Active Shooter:<\/strong> This training is offered by the University of Rhode Island Police Department and provides strategies on how to respond to an active shooter situation using Avoid, Deny, Defend<\/strong>.  The training lasts approximately 1.5 hours and is offered to students, faculty and staff. Trainings are offered regularly and participants are encouraged to sign up via the link here<\/a> to ensure enough seating. To request a training for your department, residence hall, or office, please contact shawn_miner@uri.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At URI, we encourage everyone to become familiar with our emergency preparedness procedures to ensure everyone\u2019s safety in the event of an emergency on campus. Through trainings, educational materials and guidance documents, you can learn how to prepare for and respond to emergencies on campus.  Preparedness is a shared responsibility among community members and can be achieved through simple steps such as becoming familiar with emergency protective actions, knowing evacuation routes, and having a basic disaster supply kit. All of these trainings are available upon request by e-mailing Shawn Miner<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
