Invited Speaker Biographies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><strong><strong>Kaushik P Seshadreesan<\/strong><\/strong>,<\/strong> University of Pittsburgh, USA<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaushik Seshadreesan, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Informatics and Networked Systems at the School of Computing and Information, University of Pittsburgh, holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. His academic journey includes significant research contributions in the field of quantum information science and technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before joining the University of Pittsburgh, Kaushik held positions as a Researcher\/Scientist III and postdoctoral researcher at the College of Optical Sciences, University of Arizona, Tucson, where he worked in the Group of Saikat Guha at the NSF Center for Quantum Networks. Prior to that, he conducted research as a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light in Erlangen, Germany. There, he was part of the Quantum Information Processing Group led by Christoph Marquardt within the Optics and Information Division headed by Gerd Leuchs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaushik\u2019s research interests span the intersection of quantum optics and quantum information processing. He is actively involved in developing applications related to quantum communication, sensing, and computation. Currently, his primary research focus centers around the design of photonic and matter-based repeaters for quantum communication networks. Additionally, he contributes to the development of quantum joint-detection receivers for quantum-limited classical optical communications<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Christopher Lirakis,<\/strong>&nbsp;IBM, USA<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A native Rhode Islander, Dr. Lirakis received his PhD in High Energy physics in 1989 from Northeastern University. During his thesis work and as a post-doc he worked on the development and deployment of large scale particle detectors. After leaving the high energy physics field, Dr. Lirakis became interested in the newer field of quantum information. His initial work started on the metropolitan scale quantum key distribution with BBN Technologies. He played a pivotal role in helping BBN enter the field of quantum computation development. During this time, he formed a he formed a partnership with IBM.&nbsp; He later made the transition from BBN to IBM and has helped the IBM team grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Lirakis is currently a research staff member in the IBM Quantum team. His current responsibility is to lead worldwide deployments of quantum processors. He is also responsible for helping to guide a global hardware ecosystem focused on economic development around quantum hardware. He has been a part of the IBM team since 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><strong>Jing Yang<\/strong>,&nbsp;<\/strong>Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics, Sweden<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Jing Yang is a quantum physicist affiliated with the Nordic Institute of Theoretical Physics (Nordita) in Stockholm, Sweden. His research interests lie at the intersection of quantum optics and quantum information processing. Jing focuses on developing applications related to quantum communication, sensing, and computation. Currently, his primary research involves designing photonic and matter-based repeaters for quantum communication networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jing Yang holds the position of WINQ Fellow at Nordita and is actively engaged in advancing the field of quantum control, quantum metrology, open quantum systems, and integrable models.
