URI&#8217;s<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/president\/strategic-plan\/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23502598262&amp;gbraid=0AAAABCgv8ysWsqB8qZuZt8a-NRdaZpVQi&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQiAtfXMBhDzARIsAJ0jp3Cxv19ZoRMt44yrHOm83RKvrCM1Nyb75eGeTpNAkUxYe4iJuRUrENMaAvHHEALw_wcB\"> <\/a>strategic plan discusses, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/president\/strategic-plan\/priority-3\/\">fostering an inclusive culture<\/a>, which includes being &#8220;deeply committed to cultivating a diverse, inclusive, equitable, and accessible learning, living, and working environment&#8221;. URI has enacted a procedure for any student to indicate a preferred first name to the campus community, regardless of legal first name status. We believe that this important step will move us closer to a campus community that truly values and recognizes students as they wish to be addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \">\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Last Name\/Legal Name Change<\/h1>\n\n<p>Students are not able to change their last name or legal name through eCampus.&nbsp;These name changes are performed by Enrollment Services thereby ensuring the integrity of student records. Legally changed names are those made through marriage, divorce, a court order or other legal order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Send proof of name change via: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"enrollment-group@uri.edu\">enrollment-group@uri.edu <\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fax to 401.874.2910. Include your former name, new legal name&nbsp;and student ID number.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Proof of name change includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Court order OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marriage license AND current driver\u2019s license OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Marriage license AND Social Security\u00a0card OR<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Diver&#8217;s license AND Social Security card<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong>: This action will&nbsp;not&nbsp;automatically<strong> <\/strong>change your e-Campus username or email address. Current students may request such a change by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/change-e-campus-username-email-address\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"357\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">following these directions<\/a>. Enrollment Services does not change usernames or email addresses for former students.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Preferred Name<\/h1>\n\n<p>Any student at the University of Rhode Island can indicate their preferred first name to the university community regardless of whether or not they have legally changed their name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students may set their&nbsp;preferred first name any time through e-Campus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecampus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">e-Campus<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the e-Campus Tile<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;Self Service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Campus Personal Information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Names<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Add A New Name OR if changing an existing preferred name, click edit next to the Preferred Name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select Preferred from the Name Type drop down menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter your preferred first name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Save<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Students transitioning are encouraged to visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/gender-sexuality\/trans-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gender and Sexuality Center<\/a>&nbsp;for additional information on Preferred Name Changes and\/or Legal name changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Preferred name is used in the following places:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Campus ID<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Class Rosters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grade Reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Unofficial Transcripts and Advising Reports<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Brightspace<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Starfish<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Directory Listing (unless you have chosen&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/security.uri.edu\/policies\/ferpa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FERPA&nbsp;<\/a>Exclusion)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dean\u2019s List<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Legal name is used in the following places:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student Accounts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Federal Records<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rhody Share:<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/registration-records\/rhody-share-share-info-with-parent-guardian\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rhody Share: Grant Guest Access to Your eCampus Information<\/a> Guest Access&nbsp;on E-Campus (you would designate this)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paychecks and Timecards<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial Aid<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Responses to enrollment inquiries such as verification requests (unless you have chosen&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/security.uri.edu\/policies\/ferpa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FERPA<\/a>&nbsp;Exclusion)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Official Transcripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education teacher certification records, nursing licensure, engineering licensure, pharmacy licensure, and other types of state or federal licensure or certification programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Diploma Name Change<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>Students may choose the names that appear on their diplomas any time via e-Campus.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ecampus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">e-Campus<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;Self Service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Campus Personal Information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Names<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Add A New Name OR if changing an existing degree&nbsp;name, click edit next to the Degree&nbsp;Name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select Degree&nbsp;from the Name Type drop down menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter&nbsp;the name you wish to appear on your diploma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click Save<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note, a&nbsp;student\u2019s&nbsp;legal name will continue to appear on official&nbsp;transcripts regardless of the degree name.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Rhode Island believes in the importance of equity and creating an inclusive campus environment where people can be their authentic selves.
