{"id":43617,"date":"2025-07-11T15:27:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T19:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/research-admin\/?page_id=43617"},"modified":"2026-09-03T14:36:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T18:36:08","slug":"coi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/research-admin\/integrity-security\/research-conduct\/coi\/","title":{"rendered":"Conflict of Interest and Commitment in\u00a0Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"type-intro wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A&nbsp;<strong>Financial&nbsp;Conflict of&nbsp;Interest<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(FCOI)<\/strong>&nbsp;is a situation in which an investigator\u2019s&nbsp;Significant Financial&nbsp;Interest(s)&nbsp;could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\u00a0<strong>Conflict of Commitment (COC)<\/strong>\u00a0is a situation in which the time of occurrence or the duration of an Outside Activity could hinder an investigator from carrying out their research duties.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;The&nbsp;Conflicts&nbsp;of Interest and Commitment in Research&nbsp;program provides the procedural structure for&nbsp;Significant Financial&nbsp;Interest&nbsp;and Outside Activity&nbsp;disclosures, review of&nbsp;disclosures,&nbsp;and management of identified conflicts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Conflict-of-Interest Management Committee (CIMC)&nbsp;is responsible for&nbsp;reviewing&nbsp;potential&nbsp;FCOIs and COCs&nbsp;and protecting the integrity of the URI externally funded research program&nbsp;in&nbsp;compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
