In my post doc experience, August 2014-August 2015, I worked with Dr. JD Swanson at Salve Regina University on the nutraceutical properties of blackberries on gastric cancer.<\/p><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<div><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-dcard-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-dcard  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/2019\/06\/18\/cara-pina\/\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1497\/Postdoc-Cara-Pina-PC-square.jpg\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"><div class=\"cl-dcard-text\"><h2>Cara Pina<\/h2><p>Through the RI-INBRE teaching postdoctoral fellowship program I have gained immeasurable knowledge from running an undergraduate laboratory and mentoring students at Providence College, a primary undergraduate institution. This is a unique experience since graduate school training does not prepare you to run a lab exclusively with undergraduates.<\/p><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<div><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-dcard-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-dcard  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/spring-2024-teaching-postdoctoral-fellows_boettcher\/\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1497\/Hayden-e1709744441220.jpg\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"><div class=\"cl-dcard-text\"><h2>Hayden Boettcher<\/h2><p>Ultimately, my goal is to work as a professor at a primarily undergraduate institution (such as PC). Therefore, I wanted to pursue an opportunity where I could grow both as a researcher and an educator. The INBRE Postdoctoral Teaching &amp; Research Fellowship at PC provided exactly what I was looking for. When researching potential landing spots, PC\u2019s commitment to a well-rounded liberal arts education, small class sizes, and research excellence really stood out.<\/p><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<div><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-dcard-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-dcard  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/spring-2024-teaching-postdoctoral-fellows_gately\/\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1497\/KGately.jpg\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"><div class=\"cl-dcard-text\"><h2>Kelsey Gately<\/h2><p>In my third year of the OTD program, I completed my doctoral capstone experience at the CSRIC, with Dr. Rosenthal as my site mentor. During that time, we continually discussed different options for my future, and what working in academia\/research might look like for me. It was during this semester that I learned about the fellowship. It felt like the perfect opportunity to further my research skills while also gaining experience teaching and providing mentorship to undergraduate students.<\/p><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<div><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-dcard-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-dcard  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/fall-2024-newsletter-mcclain\/\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1497\/Ted-PC.jpg\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"><div class=\"cl-dcard-text\"><h2>Ted McClain<\/h2><p>As I continued my career progression, I sought opportunities to be a hands-on mentor in the research setting and gain valuable teaching experience as an instructor of record. As such, the INBRE Postdoctoral Teaching and Research position at Providence College proved to be a perfect fit for me, as I can learn teaching strategies from senior faculty and have the chance to mentor great undergraduate students in research.<\/p><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<div><div class=\"cl-wrapper cl-dcard-wrapper\"><a class=\"cl-dcard  \" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/tpf-kristen-baker\/\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/riinbre\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/1497\/Kristen_Baker.jpg\" srcset=\"\" alt=\"\"><div class=\"cl-dcard-text\"><h2>Kristen Baker<\/h2><p>I very quickly knew this was exactly what I wanted to do, to have the teaching experience without the pressure of visiting professorship... It\u2019s been a huge highlight to see everyone excited about their projects and when schedules line up so we can be together in the lab and get to know each other.<\/p><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fullwidth\">\n<p>The Teaching Postdoctoral Fellows (TPF) program is designed to advance the teaching and research mission of the Rhode Island Primarily Undergraduate Institutions (PUIs) and help train the next generation of teacher-scholars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The TPF program is a partnership between RI-INBRE and the PUI, whereby RI-INBRE will fund up to 50% of the salary and fringe benefits, with the remaining support coming from the PUI and\/or external funding sources.<\/p>\n<p>The TPF will be required to be employed full-time at the host PUI, with 50% of their effort devoted to research and 50% devoted to teaching. It is anticipated that the TPF will teach 1 to 2 courses per semester, with a maximum teaching load of 6 hours per week during the semester. The TPF will not teach during the summer and devote 100% of their effort to research at the PUI. The appointment will be renewed annually for a maximum of two years, contingent upon research productivity and teaching performance.<\/p>\n<p>The institution will be primarily responsible for the promotion of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning for the TPF, through the provision of high quality teaching courses, workshops, resources, and professional development support. The TPF will also have access to the resources through the Office for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning at the University of Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p>It is expected that the TPF will contribute significantly to the faculty mentor\u2019s research program and play an active role in undergraduate student research training; present their research findings at regional and\/or national meetings; publish their research findings in peer-reviewed journals; assist with grant writing; and participate in RI-INBRE program activities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility<br \/>\n<\/strong>In order to apply for the TPF program, investigators must have at least two years of available research funding, either from the RI-INBRE program or from another external source.
