Since 2004, Rhode Island NSF EPSCoR<\/strong><\/a> (Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research), funded through the U.S. National Science Foundation<\/strong> and RI Commerce<\/strong>, has supported statewide partnerships among institutions of higher education, government, industry and communities to develop basic, use-inspired, translational and applied scientific research addressing real-world problems locally and beyond.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Incubating research through RI-NEST<\/h1>\n

Starting in 2024, the RI NSF EPSCoR office is led by the Rhode Island Network for Excellence in Science and Technology<\/strong>, or RI-NEST. This program seeks to improve coordination of research activity and opportunity among many partners throughout Rhode Island. By 2028, RI-NEST will: <\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Coordinate<\/span>coordinate EPSCoR-funded projects and broader Science & Technology activity in the state<\/span><\/div>
Strengthen<\/span>workforce development opportunities in diverse areas of research<\/span><\/div>
Catalyze<\/span>unique partnerships in use-inspired, transdisciplinary research<\/span><\/div>
Enhance<\/span>community and industry engagement through science communication and visualization<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n
