Her scholarship focuses on how knowledge emerges in embodied and material art experiences across domains where the arts are central. Through ethnography, interaction analysis and arts-based research methods she works to understand designing for transdisciplinary learning that is rooted in multiple ways of knowing and being. She is the co-founder and chief strategy officer of the journalism start-up, A Picture\u2019s Worth. Through her consultancy, Shokan Studios, she worked with for-profit and nonprofit firms seeking excellence in storytelling and editorial leadership. As the vice president of custom content and global content director of WSJ Custom Studios, she helped to build and lead the award-winning custom content studio of The Wall Street Journal. As editorial director of Aol Inc.\u2019s Tech, Business and Entertainment Group, she oversaw editorial strategy for leading news sites including TechCrunch and created a new digital platform, This Built America, an immersive editorial project that explored the re-imagining of American manufacturing. She taught college-level journalism and is the author of the best-selling business book, \u201cThe Power of the Purse: How Smart Companies Are Adapting to the World\u2019s Most Important Consumers.\u201d She holds a master\u2019s degree in journalism from Columbia University and was a Knight-Wallace Fellow in Journalism at the University of Michigan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Kaytee Canfield<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kaytee is currently the Regenerative Programs Manager at the Rhode Island School of Design. She is an environmental social scientist by training and an outdoor enthusiast by upbringing. Foundationally, she is passionate about building collaborations that value varied ways of thinking and communicating to achieve sustainable futures for all. Academically, Kaytee has a B.S. and M.A. in Environmental Studies from the University of Southern California, and a Ph.D. in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island. Her past work as an applied researcher has addressed tourism and environmental justice, inclusive science communication, and building functional transdisciplinary teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Ethan Brown<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ethan Brown is the Training Program Coordinator at the Metcalf Institute at the University of Rhode Island, where he develops and oversees programs to support journalists and scientists in accurate and inclusive climate communication. Prior to joining Metcalf, Ethan was the Founder and Host of The Sweaty Penguin, a comedy climate podcast presented by PBS\u2019s climate initiative Peril and Promise aiming to tackle climate anxiety and polarization. In its four year run, the podcast released over 220 episodes, received over 50,000 downloads, and interviewed over 130 climate scientists and scholars from 18 countries and 6 continents. The Sweaty Penguin also won Webby and Signal Awards, won first place in Boston University\u2019s New Venture Competition, and inspired a new geography course at the University of Kansas which replaced their textbook with the podcast. Ethan has also worked as a climate journalist and commentator, with bylines in Newsweek, The Hill, and Hartford Courant among other outlets.
