All grant application budgets must include overhead costs as required by their institutions and cannot exceed $20,000.00.&nbsp;The inclusion of students and post doctoral fellows as staff and\/or collaborators are highly encouraged<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grants of up to $7,500 are available to graduate students enrolled in full time PhD programs within Rhode Island. All grant application budgets must include overhead costs as required by their institutions and cannot exceed $7,500.00.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individuals or organizations listed on any grant as collaborators must be headquartered and\/or based in Rhode Island.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All research activities must be implemented in Rhode Island.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-stretch is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Postdoctoral fellows and graduate students are encouraged to submit applications, but submissions must follow the policies on principal investigator eligibility of their respective institutions. <em>If you are a graduate student and\/or postdoctoral fellow and are ineligible to be a PI, you must find a faculty sponsor to support your application.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Projects and workshops submitted for funding must align with at least one core theme or cross-cutting capability of the State of Rhode Island\u2019s Science and Technology Action Plan .<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All grant activities must take place between September 1, 2026-August 31 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Note that the Infoready portal is open to non-URI applicants, as well. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preferred projects will integrate at least <strong>ONE<\/strong> of the following dimensions:&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collaborations with local, state, tribal, or federal government agencies, or support indigenous interests in the state, including tribal student success.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborations with industry, NGOs, or community advocacy organizations (such as watershed councils, community development agencies, and neighborhood associations)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public science communication and visualization methodologies and products, including outputs that include multimedia, oral history, and interactive web-projects. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Projects that increase participation in STEAM for K-12 students, including curricula development. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The inclusion of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows as staff and\/or collaborators are highly encouraged.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coastal resilience, aquaculture, and blue economy\/workforce development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-stretch is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \"><h1>Applications due<\/h1>\n\n<p><strong>by 11:59:00 PM EST on Friday, July 24, 2026. <\/strong>All awardees will be notified of their award on or before August 26, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please submit questions <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/KBCDkwDqhEx9oDjYA\">using this google form<\/a> and a member of RI-NEST staff will be in touch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may also <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uri.edu\/event\/info-session-ri-nest-seed-and-workshop-grants-program\">attend a seed grant<\/a> info session on Tuesday, June 23 at 2pm ET.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Preparing your proposal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Grant submissions must be done in coordination with each primary PI\u2019s Office of Sponsored Project office and be approved for institutional compliance before submission to RI-NEST.&nbsp;<\/strong>*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For research involving human subjects, please note that <strong>any awarded funds will not be disbursed until after a letter of exemption or approval from your institution\u2019s IRB has been submitted to RI-NEST.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>PhD students are required to meet with RI-NEST staff<\/strong> before submission of a project to ensure fit and feasibility.
