{"id":2458,"date":"2013-08-30T11:29:47","date_gmt":"2013-08-30T15:29:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/?p=2458"},"modified":"2013-08-30T11:29:47","modified_gmt":"2013-08-30T15:29:47","slug":"stac-announces-call-for-proposals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/2013\/08\/30\/stac-announces-call-for-proposals\/","title":{"rendered":"STAC announces call for proposals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Approximately\u00a0<strong>$800,000<\/strong>\u00a0in <a href=\"http:\/\/stac.ri.gov\/news\/2013\/08\/28\/stac-announces-next-round-of-collaborative-research-funding-for-marine-life-projects\/\">competitive funding<\/a> is offered in support of STAC&#8217;s partnership in Rhode Island&#8217;s Cooperative Agreement with the National Science Foundation&#8217;s (NSF) Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). The overarching question of this agreement is\u00a0<strong>&#8220;What are the impacts of climate change on marine life?&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0Proposals are eligible that address any of the three EPSCoR research questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the stress responses and evolutionary potentials of marine organisms in response to climate change?,<\/li>\n<li>How are the structure and function of coastal marine food-webs and biogeochemical cycling being redirected in response to climate change?, and<\/li>\n<li>How will global climate change affect the ecology of marine pathogens and parasites?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Proposals are preferred if they include use of Core Facilities in Proteomics, Genomics &amp; Sequencing (at Brown and URI) and in Marine Life Sciences (URI, Bay Campus).<\/p>\n<p>Through this call for proposals, the <a href=\"http:\/\/stac.ri.gov\">Rhode Island Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC)<\/a> will award funding to scientific research projects that promote inter-organizational, inter-disciplinary collaboration across Rhode Island public and private research institutions and expand the state&#8217;s research infrastructure. Successfully funded proposals will be extremely well-organized and constructed activities that are catalytic in nature, submitted by an experienced and competitive team that can accomplish together what no team member can accomplish alone, provide a clearly identified plan for follow-on funding or commercialization with an outstanding potential to increase research capacity and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Pre-proposals are due\u00a0<strong>September 27, 2013<\/strong>\u00a0and should be emailed to the Rhode Island Research Alliance at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:RIResearchAlliance@riedc.com\">RIResearchAlliance@riedc.com<\/a>.
