You can increase your competitive edge by enhancing your time management and supervisory skills, mastering the basics of a successful job interview or become a more effective science communicator.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the <strong>Rhode Island Consortium for Coastal Ecology Assessment Innovation and Modeling (RI C-AIM)<\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metcalfinstitute.org\/\">Metcalf Institute<\/a><\/strong> is launching the <strong>Career Development Program<\/strong> (CDP). The CDP is specifically designed to provide professional development and mentoring training to early-career researchers. Those C-AIM participants who wish to receive a credential may choose to pursue a customizable certificate in Career Development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The CDP will commence with a webinar about developing professional goals on July 9, 2019<\/strong>. The webinar will be followed by a <strong>two-day summer intensive, July 11-12, 2019<\/strong>, at the University of Rhode Island Narragansett Bay Campus. The two-day training will focus on science communication skills.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30841\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30841\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30841 size-half_column\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/848\/19_Symp_Image_WEB-500x333.jpg\" alt=\"19_Symp_Img\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30841\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image by Shaun Kirby\/RI C-AIM<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Workforce Readiness in Academia and Beyond<\/h3>\n<p>Employers in industry, government and non-profit sectors have noted a lack of essential professional skills among science graduates entering the workforce. Unfortunately, this type of training for early-career researchers is rare and inconsistent.<\/p>\n<p>The new Career Development Program will meet that demand by building career-readiness among post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and senior-level undergraduates at Rhode Island\u2019s eight C-AIM member institutions, URI, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brown.edu\/\">Brown University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rwu.edu\/\">Roger Williams University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/salve.edu\/\">Salve Regina University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bryant.edu\/\">Bryant University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.risd.edu\/\">Rhode Island School of Design<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ric.edu\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Rhode Island College<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.providence.edu\/\">Providence College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Career Development Certificate<\/h3>\n<p>Participants can opt to pursue a <strong>Certificate in Career Development<\/strong> focusing on a variety of professional development areas, including science communication, research management and job readiness, through a series of workshops, webinars and online courses, interactive sessions, feedback sessions and conversation circles. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metcalfinstitute.org\/caim-cdp-course-selections\/\">Learn more about certificate course selections<\/a><\/strong>.
