{"id":6235,"date":"2014-10-21T08:19:46","date_gmt":"2014-10-21T12:19:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/?p=6235"},"modified":"2014-10-21T08:19:46","modified_gmt":"2014-10-21T12:19:46","slug":"rhode-island-nsf-epscor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/2014\/10\/21\/rhode-island-nsf-epscor\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhode Island NSF EPSCoR"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><strong>Who are we?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Rhode Island\u00a0NSF EPSCoR offers\u00a0a wealth of outreach and educational\u00a0opportunities across\u00a0the entire student spectrum, from\u00a0elementary school through higher education, with a vast network of expertise and facilities available throughout the Ocean State.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/2014\/10\/22\/making-learning-meaningful\/\">We work\u00a0with K-12 educators<\/a> to provide opportunities that align with the classroom curriculum, incorporate the Grade Span Expectations\u00a0and engage students with relevant, meaningful experiences in individual classrooms, on college campuses and at related businesses and industries. When possible, the outreach events provide campus tours and admissions information at any of the nine RI NSF EPSCoR partner institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Our relationships with K-12 educators set the stage for undergraduate and graduate students to gain meaningful experience in providing outreach, particularly to middle and high school students from urban centers with the highest need for exposure to educational and career opportunities in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.<\/p>\n<h3>What we offer<\/h3>\n<p><strong>STEAMsource:\u00a0<\/strong>A list of schools, agencies, organizations, businesses and industries looking to fulfill needs and provide resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Connecting\u00a0partners\u00a0&amp;\u00a0programs:<\/strong>\u00a0RI NSF EPSCoR comprises nine institutions of higher education in the Ocean State.\u00a0Additionally, there are state and federal agencies and business and industry organizations working\u00a0to help develop educational and career opportunities in the STEM fields.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Educational &amp; outreach opportunities:<\/strong>\u00a0In the K-12 classroom,\u00a0the college lab or out in the field, our programs contain multiple entry points for involvement. We offer relevant, experiential learning that engages young students and builds on\u00a0classroom teaching. We connect undergraduate and graduate students with\u00a0the chance\u00a0to share their knowledge and educational journeys while giving back to those following in their footsteps.
