{"id":6673,"date":"2014-12-17T08:06:11","date_gmt":"2014-12-17T13:06:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/?p=6673"},"modified":"2014-12-17T08:06:11","modified_gmt":"2014-12-17T13:06:11","slug":"surf-mentor-application","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/2014\/12\/17\/surf-mentor-application\/","title":{"rendered":"SURF RI 2015: Call for mentors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000066\">Rhode Island NSF EPSCoR is now accepting mentor applications for the 2015 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000066\">Currently in its ninth\u00a0year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/surf\/\">EPSCoR SURF program<\/a>, in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/inbre\/\">Rhode Island NIH INBRE<\/a>, provides valuable training and career development for undergraduates with\u00a0opportunities to\u00a0engage\u00a0in full-time, independent research during\u00a0the summer.\u00a0<\/span>Students earn fellowship awards through a competitive application process, which will begin in late January 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2007, Rhode Island NSF EPSCoR has supported more than\u00a0200 SURF fellows under the mentorship of more than 80 different faculty members at all nine <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/rinsfepscor\/about-2\/\">EPSCoR partner institutions<\/a>.\u00a0The SURF program also provides workshops on leadership and communication to help students build the skills needed for successful careers. Students wrap up their work with a poster conference that showcases their accomplishments.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000066\">The key to a successful program rests on\u00a0having dedicated mentors who can give SURF students\u00a0outstanding research experiences.
