After 10 years of friendship, formed and fortified while Dave Lambert worked on Bill Gately\u2019s car over time, the two men decided to embark on a business venture together. One day Dave, with more than 36 years\u2019 experience in the automotive repair industry, mentioned to Bill that he was thinking about buying an auto repair shop that was for sale. Bill didn\u2019t have to think too long before he was hooked.<\/p>\n
The partners were looking to work for themselves, and use their unique talents to the fullest. The existing business was well-known with a solid reputation, and they chose a location that brings in heavy traffic. Dave, who completed a vocational program in high school and earned his associate degree at New England Institute of Technology in Warwick, handles the vehicle servicing. Bill, a \u201cserial entrepreneur,\u201d who also did automotive work years ago and now owns a home improvement business, manages the shop\u2019s day to day operations. Their dynamic partnership is successful because of the specialized roles and knowledge each brings to the business.<\/p>\n
Bill and Dave came to the RISBDC in August of 2016, looking for guidance in several areas of taking over an existing business. They worked closely with business counselor Amit Basnet on creating a business plan, making financial projections, and securing a loan. \u201cAmit was very knowledgeable and extremely helpful,\u201d Bill said. With Amit\u2019s guidance, the partners closed their loan in September 2017 and had a soft opening on October 23. A grand opening and ribbon cutting are planned for Spring 2018.<\/p>\n
A year in the making, Bill and Dave have finally opened up their own shop and are busier than ever. Dave\u2019s respected and distinguished work has continued to bring in loyal customers — including tripling their 1st<\/sup> month sales projections<\/strong>, a feat almost unheard for new businesses.
