Ross and Coppotelli received a two-year, $433,125 NIH grant to characterize a new mouse model of mitochondrial dysfunction. The lab was also <a href=\"https:\/\/ecori.org\/forget-ai-welcome-to-the-dawn-of-plastic-people\/\">featured<\/a> in ecoRI News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 2024<\/strong> Dr. Ross <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stlawu.edu\/news\/st-lawrence-university-neuroscience-alumna-dr-jaime-ross-presents-annual-richard-d-church-lecture\">visited <\/a>her alma mater, St. Lawrence University, to deliver the Richard D. Church Lecture in Neuroscience. In her lecture, Dr. Ross presented research on the impacts of environmental and lifestyle factors on mitochondrial dysfunction, epigenetics, and chronic inflammation in aging and disease states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 2023 <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2023\/08\/microplastics-infiltrate-all-systems-of-body-cause-behavioral-changes\/\">Key findings<\/a> from the Ross lab&#8217;s work on microplastics are published in the <em>International Journal of Molecular Science<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 2023<\/strong> The Ross lab receives a <a href=\"https:\/\/plastics.uri.edu\/\">URI Plastics Seed Grant<\/a> to study the lifecycle of microplastics in the body and their impact on brain health, with Dr. Ross as principal investigator. <em><strong>September<\/strong> <strong>update<\/strong><\/em>: Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2023\/09\/uri-initiative-will-invest-200k-to-support-translational-research-on-microplastic-pollution\/\">official announcement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p><strong>May 2022<\/strong> The Ross lab is featured in the Spring edition of URI&#8217;s <em>Momentum<\/em> magazine (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/research\/what-is-the-life-cycle-of-microplastics-in-the-body\/\">&#8220;What Is the Life Cycle of Microplastics in the Body?&#8221;<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>January 2022<\/strong> Drs. Ross and Coppotelli are primary investigators on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uri.edu\/news\/2022\/01\/uri-receives-563706-in-grants-from-the-champlin-foundation-for-cutting-edge-technologies\/\">$179,500 grant <\/a>from the Champlin Foundation to acquire high-precision Laser Capture Microdissection technology that enables researchers to isolate and study individual cells or cell structures in tissue, cell, and other biological samples. This year&#8217;s event will focus on challenges in healthy longevity. The annual Interstellar Initiative brings together early career scientists around the world for a two-day workshop that fosters interdisciplinary mentorship, networking, and collaboration. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 2021<\/strong> (Video below) An interview with Dr. Ross and collaborators Malin Hernebring, Ph.D. and Julia Adelof, Ph.D. of the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, discussing their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aging-us.com\/article\/102242\/text\">recent publication<\/a> in <em>Aging<\/em>, &#8220;Conclusions from a behavioral aging study on male and female F2 hybrid mice on age-related behavior, buoyancy in water-based tests, and an ethical method to assess lifespan.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-video-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-video  \"><div class=\"poster\" id=\"5ylHh-RYjSQ\" data-video=\"5ylHh-RYjSQ\" data-platform=\"youtube\" data-showinfo=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.youtube.com\/vi\/5ylHh-RYjSQ\/maxresdefault.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March 2021<\/strong> Dr. Ross was awarded grant from the Rhode Island Foundation to collect preliminary data for a project focused on lifestyle factors that contribute to Alzheimer\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate INP student and Ross Lab member Sydney Bartman was part of an<a href=\"https:\/\/brainweekri.org\/index.php\/brainy-visits\/brainy-adventures\/\"> interactive video lesson<\/a> on executive function (&#8220;Multitasking and the Brain&#8221;) for Brain Week Rhode Island&#8217;s &#8220;Brainy Adventure&#8221; online school visit series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 2020<\/strong> Drs. Ross and Coppotelli is awarded a three-year, <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/pharmacy\/2023\/01\/05\/pharmacy-professors-study-aims-to-ease-age-related-disorders\/\">$747,000 grant<\/a> from the National Institute on Aging (R00, NIH Pathways to Independence Award) on the role of epigenetics in age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer&#8217;s disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 2020<\/strong> The Ross Lab is awarded a $95,000 grant from the Fred M.
