The early shift (4a.m. to 4 p.m.) had 3 tightly spaced stations. At 4:30 a.m. we had our first view of the Antarctic Peninsula, through the porthole in the filtering lab. We\u2019ve been getting closer all day. The evening shift just completed a station in among the icebergs of Matha Strait (check out our link above \u201cWhere is the Palmer now?\u201d). We do try to get up on deck (camera in hand) and get a quick look at this amazing area in between processing samples.
