And if you must water, water just once a week for a\u00a0deep soaking. \u00a0Frequent watering can weaken plants.<\/li>\n<li>Use a\u00a0rain gauge\u00a0to measure weekly rainfall and apply only the amount of supplemental water needed.<\/li>\n<li>Adjust sprinklers so that they don\u2019t water paved surfaces. In the event that it\u2019s unavoidable, direct the flow of water toward your lawn or garden.<\/li>\n<li>Check the weather forecast &#8211; no need to water if it&#8217;s going to rain. \u00a0If you have automatic sprinklers, be sure they aren\u2019t programmed to come on in the rain.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t water in the heat of the day.
