{"id":1361,"date":"2014-08-06T14:54:00","date_gmt":"2014-08-06T18:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/safewater\/?page_id=1361"},"modified":"2014-08-06T14:54:00","modified_gmt":"2014-08-06T18:54:00","slug":"adapt-to-climate-change","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/safewater\/adapt-to-climate-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Adapt to Climate Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In July 2014, I participated in the <a href=\"http:\/\/wpwa.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association&#8217;s <\/a>Climate Change\u00a0Lectures: Adapting the Watershed. \u00a0Preparing the presentation gave me the opportunity to think about our work in the context of climate change. \u00a0One thing we do know is that the Northeast has experienced an increase in extreme weather events &#8211; the wets are wetter and the drys are drier.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the best practices for water quality protection are best practices for preparing for and adapting to the effects of climate change. \u00a0For example, what you can do to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Reduce Stormwater Runoff\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/safewater\/programs\/protecting-water-quality-at-home\/sustainable-landscaping\/reduce-stormwater-runoff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reduce stormwater runoff<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Water Conservation\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/safewater\/programs\/protecting-water-quality-at-home\/water-conservation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conserve water<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Private Well Testing and Protection\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/safewater\/drinking-water\/private-well-testing-and-protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Protect your drinking water well<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s my presentation to the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association, <a href=\"http:\/\/cels.uri.edu\/docslink\/safewaterPDF\/TooMuchOrTooLittle_web.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Water: Too Much or Too Little?
