Sigma Xi Membership Information<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The URI Chapter of Sigma Xi welcomes new members from the campus science community.  Membership is available to students (undergraduate and graduate), faculty, and staff (e.g., post-doctoral researchers, research associates). We seek to celebrate excellence in research, scientific integrity, and commitment to work that advances human knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becoming a Member<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Membership in Sigma Xi is by nomination ONLY and is conferred at one of two levels; it is NOT dependent on the nominee having a specific education degree. Students and non-students follow the same review process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Associate Membership<\/em><\/strong> is available to any individual who has, through initial research achievement in a field of pure or applied science, shown an aptitude for research. Students (both graduate and undergraduate) are inducted as Associate Members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full Membership<\/em><\/strong> is conferred upon any individual who has shown noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in a field of pure or applied science. Promotion to Full Membership is available to individuals who were previously elected as an Associate Member and who now meet the requirements for Full Membership (i.e., noteworthy achievement). These individuals may apply for promotion using the protocols listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If nominated for membership in Sigma Xi, please send the <\/strong>following documents to sigma_xi@uri.edu<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
  1. Sigma Xi membership application (URI chapter)<\/a><\/li>
  2. A copy of your resume\/CV that includes a brief statement regarding your involvement in research and potential research aptitude (e.g., research projects, poster\/oral presentations).\u00a0<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Officers of the URI Sigma Xi chapter meet bi-monthly to consider applications for membership; the President and Vice President of the URI chapter will serve as the first and second nominator, respectively, for all approved nominations<\/p>\n\n\n\n
