SMILE partners up with Schneider Electric for Community ImpACT Day of Action!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, June 3rd, SMILE staff and Schneider Electric employees gathered at the University of Rhode Island\u2019s Kingston campus for our 2022 Day of Action. We started the day at the URI Greenhouse and headed out in teams to work on improving our Elementary Outdoor Ecology Field Day sites. Activity planning and field site improvements were made at our Vernal Pool, Forest, and Pond sites. After working together we returned to the greenhouse for a delicious lunch provided by Schneider. Thank you Schneider employees for your dedication and hard work for our SMILE students in Rhode Island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SMILE Program is honored to partner with Schneider Electric. Schneider has been with SMILE since the beginning 28 years ago. They have stood by SMILE all these years, allowing us to grow and serve more underserved students around the state each year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SMILE Program is Awarded an AAUW Community Action Grant.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) has awarded a 2022-23 Community Action Grant to The SMILE Program. The goal of \u2018Propelling Girls Futures in STEM, The SMILE Program\u2019 is to increase the knowledge and interest in STEM amongst female students with an emphasis on targeting minority, BIPOC and educationally disadvantaged girls. SMILE\u2019s work closely aligns with the mission of AAUW to break down educational and economic barriers that keep talented girls from pursuing careers in STEM. Through SMILE we hope to supplement the future STEM workforce with competent and competitive female talent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AAUW is one of the world\u2019s leading supporters of graduate women\u2019s education: Over the past 134 years, it has provided more than $135 million in fellowships, grants and awards to 13,000 women from 150 countries. AAUW is proud to be one of the nation\u2019s largest educational funders for women of color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the 2022-23 academic year, AAUW is awarding an unprecedented $6 million through seven fellowships and grants programs to more than 320 scholars, research projects and programs promoting education and equity for women and girls. The SMILE Program is honored to be a recipient of the AAUW grant and is excited to engage and encourage girls in STEM in Rhode Island.
