It all starts with a curiosity about human nature. What does it mean to be human? Why do we behave the way we do? How can we live together in this world? What can we learn about ourselves\u2014and the future\u2014from studying our ancestors and how they lived?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As sociologists and anthropologists, these are the questions that fascinate us. And every day, we search for the answers\u2014in the classroom, through our research, and in a variety experiential learning and fieldwork opportunities. We believe in learning by doing. That\u2019s why we integrate experiential learning into all our degree programs, with options for a range of interests, including internships at the\u00a0Feinstein Center for a Hunger-Free America<\/a>, the Rhode Island Attorney General\u2019s Office, and summer fieldwork opportunities in Mexico and Southern Italy.
<\/td>		Teaching undergraduates is our priority, and it\u2019s personal. With\u00a013 full-time faculty<\/a>\u00a0members in the department, you\u2019ll get to know your professors and they\u2019ll get to know you. And if you\u2019re undecided about your major, we\u2019re here to answer your questions, offering the support you need to make a decision.
<\/td>		You\u2019ll have opportunities to work with some of URI\u2019s biggest thinkers\u2014award-winning faculty researchers, who invite\u00a0students to work with them<\/a>\u00a0on projects such as examining how incarceration affects our aging prison population, or studying human energetics from an evolutionary perspective by researching energy use in apes.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
