In additional to serving as the institutional memory of the University of Rhode Island, University Archives and Special Collections collects and preserves unique, rare, and locally-relevant research materials that enhance the holdings of the University Libraries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hold diverse research materials including rare books, family and personal papers, manuscripts, oral histories, political papers, organizational records collections, and myriad sources for the study of local history. Our collections focus on the University of Rhode Island and on the social, cultural, economic, political, and religious life of Rhode Island. Subject strengths include government and politics, Rhode Island history, labor and unionization, small presses, and the textile industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are best known as the home of the Commercial Pattern Archive<\/a> and a repository for the papers of Rhode Island politicians.

An extensive collection of commercially-produced paper sewing patterns and a unique scholarly database used by costumers, fashion designers, museum professionals, scholars, and vintage aficionados the world over.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Rhode Island Episcopal Church Records<\/h2>

The University of Rhode Island serves as the official depository of non-current and historical records of many of the Episcopal churches located in Rhode Island.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Molloy Labor and Transit Collections<\/h2>

The Molloy Labor and Transit Collection documents the region\u2019s labor, industrial, and transit history. It encompasses collections of primary source material produced or collected by organizers and researchers as well as the records of unions.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Oral Histories<\/h2>

The oral history collections contain cassettes and some transcripts or logs of the interviews of local oral history interviews on various aspects of Rhode Island life in the twentieth century.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Rhode Island Political Papers<\/h2>

The University of Rhode Island Library preserves many of the records of Rhode Island\u2019s political leaders. The Political Papers Collection currently holds the papers of six governors, three United States Representatives, one Rhode Island Representative, and two United States Senators.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
