{"id":2700,"date":"2015-03-09T20:17:08","date_gmt":"2015-03-09T20:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/specialcollections\/?page_id=2700"},"modified":"2015-03-09T20:17:08","modified_gmt":"2015-03-09T20:17:08","slug":"restoration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/specialcollections\/watsonhouse\/restoration\/","title":{"rendered":"Restoration 1963- 1964"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2247\/watsonrestoration4.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[2700]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2701 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2247\/watsonrestoration4.jpg\" alt=\"watsonrestoration4\" width=\"271\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the fall of 1962 the Board of Trustees determined that the cost of restoring the Oliver Watson House would be so great that it would be better to raze the building.\u00a0 Under the leadership of\u00a0 the late Dr. Carl Woodward, President from\u00a0\u00a0 , $20,000 was raised to save the building and the Board of Trustees provided the rest of the fund required to restore the building.\u00a0 Reconstruction began in July of 1963 under the supervision of Mr. Harry W. Huntington of Wickford with Mrs. George E.
