The University of Rhode Island (URI) recently partnered with a polling firm to provide resourceful insights into Rhode Islanders’ attitudes towards voting, public education, the role of public media, and other key political issues. This initiative was collaborated with faculty from URI: Emily Lynch (Political Science), Ying Xiong (Communications), and SSIREP Director Julie C. Keller. This poll is the first of URI’s Rhode Island Survey Initiative, an effort to survey a wide range of issues impacting the citizens of the state. <\/p>\n

Congratulations to Jessica Str\u00fcbel, Saheli Goswami, and Ji Hye Kang (Textiles, Fashion Merchandising, and Design) on their new article in Sustainability: <\/em>“Improving Society and the Planet: Sustainability and Fashion Post-Pandemic.”<\/a> Dr. Str\u00fcbel and her team were the recipients of a 2022 SSIREP Faculty Seed Grant<\/a>, which made this work possible. <\/p>\n

SSIREP wants to congratulate professor Richard McIntyre and his team on their efforts to create inclusive housing in their new project. The South Kingstown Housing Authority (SKHA) and the University of Rhode Island (URI) have joined forces to conduct a project aimed at assessing the past of public housing in South Kingstown, studying successful models of public housing that promote both socioeconomic advancement and community integration, and developing a vision for the future.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Nina Eichacker (Economics) on her new article in Review of Political Economy<\/em>: “A Political Economy of Fiscal Space…”<\/a> Dr. Eichacker presented an early draft of this paper for feedback in SSIREP’s Faculty Working Paper series in Fall 2021.<\/p>\n

The SSIREP Policy Lab Fellowship at the University of Rhode Island produces non-partisan research reports to assist Rhode Island CBOs and GAs with topical policy issues. The lab brings together faculty and students from across the university to address societal needs. The Public Policy Lab Fellowship provides students with work experience and skills relevant to careers in government and community-based organizations. Students from underrepresented or marginalized backgrounds are encouraged to apply here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Corey Lang (Environmental & Natural Resource Economics<\/a>) for receiving funding from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture! Dr. Lang was a 2022 recipient of a SSIREP Faculty Seed Grant. His project’s focus is on how partisan preferences change across venues and the impact on farm, forest, and open space conservation. We wish him luck with this exciting research project!<\/p>\n
