The videos seek to make information about the practice and effect of solitary confinement more accessible and provide a resource for advocates pursuing solitary confinement policy reform.&nbsp;Beaucaire\u2019s project was supported by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/artsci\/fellows-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/artsci\/fellows-program\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1631646901451000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGcckRtchDwchKSr79kPA2qDPo_wA\">College of Arts and Science\u2019s Summer Fellows Program<\/a>&nbsp;and the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/undergraduate-research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/undergraduate-research\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1631646901452000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFE1QrKfBQnBaaZ-_ird4wuBjEkBw\">Office of Undergraduate Research and Innovation at URI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Beaucaire conceptualized the project while learning about solitary confinement in a criminology and criminal justice class taught by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ccj\/meet\/natalie-a-pifer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ccj\/meet\/natalie-a-pifer\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1631646901452000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFYQja9Mx0s1gy3HMWh1JDq1tkbfQ\">Dr. Natalie Pifer<\/a>, an Assistant Professor of Criminology and Criminal Justice and a SSIREP fellow. Dr. Pifer, who served as the faculty advisor for Beaucaire\u2019s work, is a punishment scholar who studies criminal justice reforms, including solitary confinement. Dr. Pifer has received&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ssirep\/prison-reform-in-the-era-of-mass-incarceration-how-to-create-a-culture-of-wellness-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/ssirep\/prison-reform-in-the-era-of-mass-incarceration-how-to-create-a-culture-of-wellness-2019\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1631646901452000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFRvCib9xMoWgxZOUhlgw3MnQif9A\">SSIREP support to collect interview data as part of her research on reforms undertaken by the Maine Department of Corrections<\/a>.&nbsp;She has conducted research into reforms to solitary confinement policy undertaken by the Washington state Department of Corrections.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.doc.wa.gov\/corrections\/incarceration\/restrictive-housing.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.doc.wa.gov\/corrections\/incarceration\/restrictive-housing.htm&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1631646901452000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH-5WjBtDb3odhUq5MeImVSnHH5LA\">Information about these reforms is available here.<\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Through Beaucaire&#8217;s videos, she considers the history of solitary confinement, seeks to represent its effects in practice, and discuss reforms.
