An environmental chemist, Becanova has integrated her expertise in analytical chemistry with environmental engineering; her goal is to identify the presence of compounds of concern in the environment If something makes you really happy, use it&#8230;in your 20 products, you could just pick one to three.\u201d Elsie Sunderland, PhD., on PFAS in your home products, as quoted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2023\/02\/13\/massachusetts-pfas-risk-harm-tips\">WBUR interview <\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2023\/02\/13\/massachusetts-pfas-risk-harm-tips\">PFAS expert tips: How to reduce your exposure to harmful \u2018forever chemicals.<\/a>\u2019<\/em> Sunderland and STEEP Trainee Heidi Pickard recommend reading labels with PFAS in mind.<\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both\">\n<p>\u201c\u2026at the end of the day, it shouldn&#8217;t be on all of us as individuals to have toxic chemicals on our mind when we&#8217;re at the grocery store or buying clothes or furnishings for our homes and our families. There need to be broader level changes to enforce stricter regulations on chemicals and to keep toxic chemicals out of the marketplace.\u201d &#8211; CEC Co-Lead Laurel Schaider, PhD., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loe.org\/shows\/segments.html?programID=22-P13-00037&amp;segmentID=5\">as featured on NPR\u2019s Living on Earth<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026In the small intestine, they&#8217;ll basically be completely absorbed into the body\u2026within a couple of days, 100% absorbed\u2026which is not the case for every chemical or drug.\u201d Angela Slitt, PhD., as quoted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loe.org\/shows\/segments.html?programID=22-P13-00037&amp;segmentID=5\"><em>Tracing the path of toxic \u2018forever chemicals\u2019 inside the body<\/em> with WBUR. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPFAS are everywhere and in most animals surveyed. But collecting that information and putting it together is a huge effort.
