This award is given annually to a graduate student selected by a committee appointed by the dean of the Graduate School of Oceanography. Maya also recently received an <a href=\"https:\/\/orise.orau.gov\/internships-fellowships\/index.html\">Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) fellowship<\/a> from the EPA. ORISE fellowships connect diverse and talented students, recent graduates, postdocs, and faculty to programs at federal agencies to prepare the next generation of the nation\u2019s scientific workforce. Maya\u2019s fellowship work is at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/greeningepa\/atlantic-coastal-environmental-sciences-division-acesd-laboratory\">EPA Atlantic Coast Environmental Sciences Division<\/a> located in Narragansett, RI. She conducts field sampling and analytical procedures to measure PFAS in the aquatic environment, especially in sediment and tissue. She is also collaborating with the aquatic ecotoxicology staff at the EPA to develop contaminant diet studies. Previously, as a graduate student and STEEP trainee, Maya researched an analytical and field method to quantify PFAS in air and water.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maya Morales-McDevitt has been selected to receive the James Corless Prize in Marine Chemistry.
