For students facing unforeseen challenges that may impact their ability to complete the semester, URI offers options for temporarily stepping away from academic responsibilities with the assurance of continued support and a clear pathway for re-engagement when ready, including leaves of absence.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Students considering a pause from the University of Rhode Island should speak with either a SSAS staff member or their college to better understand the options available to them, as well as any circumstances that should be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leave of Absence\/Withdrawal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Please review the University of Rhode Island information regarding leaves of absence and withdrawals<\/a> from Enrollment Services – Registration and Records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incompletes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This option may be available toward the end of a semester when circumstances are such that a student is unable to complete the last few weeks of classes, including finals. “I” grades are an option in cases in which the student has completed most of the work for the course and the student is passing and has been meeting the academic expectations for the course prior to the request. If approved, “I” grades will be assigned until the work of the course is completed. The student will be required to work with the professor of each course to determine a plan\/timeline for completing the course. When the coursework is completed the “I” grade will be replaced with the letter grade the student earned in the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incompletes require the professor’s approval and must be resolved prior to graduation, or the grade will be changed to NC (not completed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Late Drop Petition<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Petition your college to late drop one or more courses due to extenuating circumstances. Contact your college office to inquire about this process.<\/p>\n\n\n
