Students have the right to a Conduct Advisor during Academic Honesty proceedings. The following process applies when there is an allegation of academic dishonesty.<\/p>\n\n<\/article><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Notification of Academic Honesty Violations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p>Faculty and instructors are required to notify the student of Academic Honesty allegations. Faculty and instructors must also send formal written notice to the instructor\u2019s College Dean, the student\u2019s College Dean, and the Dean of Students Office. The Associate Dean of Students, Community Standards or designee notifies the student in writing of the Academic Honesty violation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-boxout-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-boxout  \">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Report Academic Misconduct<\/h2>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  block-level prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofRhodeIsland&amp;layout_id=11\" title=\"\">for faculty<\/a>\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  block-level\" href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofRhodeIsland&amp;layout_id=38\" title=\"\">For Staff<\/a>\n\n<a class=\"cl-button  block-level\" href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofRhodeIsland&amp;layout_id=0\" title=\"\">for students<\/a>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sanctions and Appeals for Academic Honesty Violations<\/h1>\n\n\n<section class=\"cl-wrapper cl-tabs-wrapper\"><div class=\"cl-tabs  \">\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Academic Sanctions<\/h1>\n\n<p>The instructor has three following options when sanctioning a student who has been found responsible for violating the University\u2019s or faculty\u2019s Academic Honesty standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) The Faculty may fail the student for the assignment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) The Faculty may fail the student for the course, with authorization from the instructor\u2019s College Dean; and\/or<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>c) The Faculty may request formal Student Conduct action. This request may be made in lieu of or in addition to a grade adjustment.<\/p>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button   prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentconduct\/handbook\/\" title=\"\">review student handbook<\/a>\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Conduct Sanctions<\/h1>\n\n<p>If it is a first offense and no formal conduct action is requested, students are sent a formal and official warning letter. Repeat infractions require conduct action is initiated against the student. Conduct action on an allegation of academic dishonesty may be requested by the instructor\u2019s College Dean or by the instructor with a statement from the instructor\u2019s College Dean. Appeals of formal conduct action will be followed in accordance with the Student Handbook appeals process.<\/p>\n\n<\/section>\n\n<section class=\"cl-tab \"><h1>Academic Appeal Options<\/h1>\n\n<p>The student may appeal the allegation of academic dishonesty according to the guidelines in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/manual\/chapter-8\/chapter-8-2\/\">University Manual.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>b) Grade Sanction \u2013 Course Failure:<\/strong>&nbsp;The student or instructor may appeal the dean\u2019s decision to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs whose decision on that appeal shall be final (See University Manual 8.27.18)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>a) Grade Sanction \u2013 0 on Assignment:<\/strong>&nbsp;The student may appeal the matter to the instructor\u2019s dean, and the decision by the dean shall be expeditious and final (See University Manual 8.27.17)<\/p>\n\n\n<a class=\"cl-button   prominent\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/manual\/chapter-8\/chapter-8-2\/\" title=\"\">review university manual<\/a>\n<\/section>\n<\/div><\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Notification of Academic Honesty Violations Faculty and instructors are required to notify the student of Academic Honesty allegations.
