The Student Organization Committee, known as SOC, deals with all matters relating to student organizations at the University of Rhode Island. SOC reviews all applications for recognition as a University student organization. After a group has been recognized, it must apply for re-recognition every spring semester during the annual Re-Recognition Process. SOC maintains and interprets the Model Constitution, the document outlining the fundamental standards by which every student organization is required to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to recognizing student organizations, SOC functions in an advisory capacity, oversees group activities to ensure they are operating within their stated purpose, arbitrates disputes, and administers disciplinary measures (including de-recognition) when an organization violates policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SOC holds a meeting every fall and spring semester for all URI student organization Presidents\u2013 called the President\u2019s Meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SOC committee handles yearly budgeting and maintains records of all recognized student organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Committee meetings are every Thursday and Friday at 1:00 pm in the Memorial Union, room 201 (Student Senate office). Please sign up for a meeting beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
