{"id":2868,"date":"2014-09-26T11:12:41","date_gmt":"2014-09-26T15:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/?p=2868"},"modified":"2014-09-26T11:12:41","modified_gmt":"2014-09-26T15:12:41","slug":"executive-9-25-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/executive-9-25-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Executive 9-25-2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Attendance: Boutmy, Cicero, Hetland, Kilduff, Maynard, Rode, Sit, Solomon, Yip, Uy, Zawatsky<\/p>\n<p>6:34<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Vice President Report<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senate Exec Retreat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 On a Sunday<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work on the Drop-box idea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 CIO and DOM<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>President\u2019s Report (read by Hetland)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exec needs to confirm office hours<\/li>\n<li>Committees, please confirm information: members, meeting time, etc<\/li>\n<li>DOM: Kim needs a photo for the bio<\/li>\n<li>Promote the Scholarship<\/li>\n<li>Co-sponsorship idea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Increase football game viewers<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For the next 4 home football games, whatever student group brings the most amount of people to the game will get $500 from URI Foundation, $500 in Senate Co-sponsorship, and $500 from Athletics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>By-Laws committee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Need 2 new members<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One new Senate member and one current<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SOARC Report<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By the end of October Bruce will have recognized all the academic clubs on campus.<\/li>\n<li>Next Wednesday a By-Laws Bill will be introduced to get rid of the recommendation from SOARC for Funded\/Unfunded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 In the By-Laws, it will state that SOARC will recognize a group as Funded\/Unfunded etc<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Changed the wording on it: the words \u201cfull budget\u201d, \u201ccontingency\u201d and \u201cbudget line\u201d were removed and that is all that was done<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Wrote an updated version of the bill because the old one was not approved by Sam.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Said it was unclear of what\u2019s qualified as Funded\/Unfunded\n<ul>\n<li>Didn\u2019t understand the distinction between what\u2019s Funded\/Unfunded and what it takes to be recognized as a particular sector<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Will meet with Sam or email him before Thursday to make sure the new version is acceptable<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 The final bill needs to be done and on the floor before Re-rec<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If it\u2019s good we can vote in on, and if still needs work we can vote it down<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>External<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Forum is Wednesday, 5-7 so send questions if you have them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Will be taped and can send it out to news media if we want<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Attendance looks promising; may have a booked auditorium<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DOC:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>DOM I need the posters<\/li>\n<li>Got a lot of re-tweets yesterday for Elections<\/li>\n<li>I have a list of things already for the October Newsletter<\/li>\n<li>Plan on updating the board once new senators are voted in<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Academic:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting with various people regarding complaints, etc<\/li>\n<li>Question 4<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Want a considerate effort on Senate\u2019s behalf to campaign for this<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Need to educate Senate about what this vote actually means<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Encourage students to go to polls and vote<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t feel Academic should or can tackle this on their own so need Exec to work together<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Ideas for Campaigning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Can reach out to engineering fraternities<\/li>\n<li>Do an Opinion Bill<\/li>\n<li>Contact Kyle Weinreich who is working for one of the two people running for governor<\/li>\n<li>Team up with Friends for Question 4, others, or campaign on our own<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>DOM<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everything people requested is all done<\/li>\n<li>Working on a project for External<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Campus Report<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sent out emails about Safety and Lighting and I have only heard from a couple of people<\/li>\n<li>Met with Zipcar today<\/li>\n<li>Meeting with Dining Services and Facilities because the facilities have been slacking and to touch base on Butterfield<\/li>\n<li>Waiting on campus architect regarding biking situation<\/li>\n<li>Need to deal with Butterfield Thanksgiving Situation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finance Report<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Went over with Bruce and it seems all the sports and fitness clubs will have to book space off of campus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Wrestling has a $3000 bill coming up<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Fitness club and MMA will most likely have bills following<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Will end up being a lot of money<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Hetland will appeal to NCAA Advisory Board<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SOLC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen as SOLC grows because as of last year they spend $5000 for each of their trainings<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Only group that has two overnights per year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Want to split SOLC outside of the Senate Accounts to avoid spending marketing dollars for retreats<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes this will make: Will no longer need to get a signature from Treasurer, Finance Chair and President\n<ul>\n<li>This means they can process their own paperwork on time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Will take time for Accounts to move this over but once down it will be set forever<\/li>\n<li>This spring when they did budgeting for our line they didn\u2019t come to us at all so the Treasurer had to think about how much SOLC spends\n<ul>\n<li>No need for these inconsistencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Possibly connect SOLC training to the leadership class offered for leadership majors\/minors<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t fund academic organizations\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t do this because a lot of times groups will use the money for academic classes, which could instead be funded by the academic college<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Most likely will be something SOARC deals with instead of Finance<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Request from CVSA<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 5k for Soles<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Money raised is by the number of miles walked<\/li>\n<li>Free to do the 5k, money is made based on miles walked<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Just need to provide funds for the tracking<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Need to have the entire workings of a 5k figured out<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>See Sheri<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Want Senate to increase the basic resources we can provide to student groups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Easels, boards, etc<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Currently all we provide is a camera<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Electronics from Groups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Musicians Guild and EMA are going to apply together for a computer<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Cigar has a lot of equipment they want to dispose of<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Will develop a protocol for how to get rid of it<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 This also means these groups will be asking us for new computers<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yearbook and Cigar need new technology; current computers don\u2019t work efficiently and need the custom equipment\n<ul>\n<li>Yearbook currently has no members though so this issue needs to be resolved<\/li>\n<li>Need to complete the yearbook for this year;
