We want to strengthen our academic committee so we want to take an educational trip to the museum. It speaks a lot to the people in our organization. It would bring a diverse and bonding experience. It is something we have never done before”

o “We have checked three different companies. Waiting for First student to get back to me with a quote. $582 Ocean state transit from Middletown RI it’s a yellow school bus. It’s cheaper because it is closer to URI. It would only be an earlier date Oct 4th. “

o Admission is a total of $125 and that’s with a group discount

o Travel grants half the cost of 6 people which would include admission and transportation. It would be held the bus cost. See how much it would cost to see if there are alternative for transportation but it is more of a struggle than it is worth. The buses should be sufficient.

o Expecting 50 people

o Waiting for First student to respond with a quote. If First student is the easier and cheaper option you should chose them. You have to wait until Monday anyways because accounts has left for the day.

o Put into half of $582 towards line 400 for travel.

o This is all contingent on: 1. Pink is okay with Oct 4th date 2. Ocean state transit still the cheapest

Student Action for Sustainability

This year we celebrating resources for sustainability and sustainability week. We promote sustainability at the student level. There will be a movie and the movie maker will be present at the event. The person that is coming is asking for $1000. $300 for the licensing of the movie. We are doing it Tuesday night in Edwards. The movie is about trash and plastic in the Pacific Ocean. The presenter is going to present about the making of the movie and the data around the subject. Cooperative Extension and the office of sustainability are helping out during the week

o Assuming the exec says yes to $300 dollars we will give them $300

o How many people are you expecting? 50 people, we are targeting marine bio classes. The entire week will be marketed.

o The event is Oct 14th

o Last year student senate also sponsored the event. It was a double feature with SEC for Lorax. $350 was for the movie.

o Vote: (6-0-0)

GSA

Asking money to co-host Drag Show for the end of Coming Out week with the LGBTQ Center

o This is having a group, after the fact, run part of an event for an outside group. It depends on how much the GSA is actually involved in this. Who will be liable?

o Annie from LGBTQ Center: “When we first starting planning the drag ball, we spent a lot on the performers and we don’t have enough funds for the stage set up. We went through a process. I first went to SEC, then I was sent to SS. I wanted to let you know that those weren’t our intentions.

o In addition to that, we want full collaboration with GSA. GSA has traditionally only have done the door with that. They will be working with us earlier in the day. We would love GSA to heavily be involved in the event. Did the GSA know about this before? Found out the beginning of the week.

o This is free and a public event.

o What is the GSA is doing for the drag ball? GSA rep: “We definitely help with set up of decorations, clean up, and being there. “

o Glass: Bad precedent but I would love to have everything going smoothly as possible. It’s tough with time

o GSA will be held accountable in the ballroom.

o There will be professional staff present at the entire event.

o LGBTQ rep: “The LGBTQ center was planning for sure to work with GSA at the doors. Funding was a deciding factor. “

o In future years, do you think GSA can work with the LGBTQ center in this event? Absolutely

o Drag ball is new. Last year we had pride night with Athletics.

o University department taking advantage of student tax dollars. This is programming for everyone and the community. It is an open event.

o LGBTQ rep: LGBTQ center is student focused. We want to make this event the best it can be

o So far, we have our performer is $3500 for Juju bee and All the King’s Men.

o The reminder that we need is $2639.25 from GSA after the $750 cosponsorship from SS

o Still concerning that it wasn’t planned as a joint event from the beginning.

o There needs to be open communication between GSA and LGBTQ Center

o LGBTQ rep: “We have had conversation all last year to see what students wanted to see. We showed videos and people got really excited about it so that’s the idea of why we wanted to do a drag ball.”

o The event is Oct 10 from 8-10pm

o LGBTQ rep: “It’s just the nature how we did the week in the past. We have always just planned out weeks but this piece of it not knowing that they would want to be involved. We knew they would be there at the event. That’s what is good. For our Trans week we can be more open about collaboration. “

o We already have lowered the initial 4500 for staging

o Diversity fund?

o Finance committee decides to pass with (3-2-1).
