{"id":3588,"date":"2014-11-25T12:10:13","date_gmt":"2014-11-25T17:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/?p=3588"},"modified":"2014-11-25T12:10:13","modified_gmt":"2014-11-25T17:10:13","slug":"finance-9-24-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/finance-9-24-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"Finance 9-24-2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MEETING START TIME: <\/strong>4:01pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>ATTENDANCE: <\/strong>Stewart, Weinreich, Sit, Nowinowski (Murphy was late 4:06pm)<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMITTEE DISCUSSION: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Club Instruction Fees<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stewart- Only 5 clubs are budgeted for instruction<\/li>\n<li>Senate wants a fair and equal precedent across the board<\/li>\n<li>Ballroom \u2013 $3000<\/li>\n<li>Only 12 people though<\/li>\n<li>Scuba Club \u2013 coming to request money for instruction (3750)<\/li>\n<li>Stewart \u2013 if it\u2019s budgeted, don\u2019t need to reapply to get the funds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Go through a purchase req. and payment order to get access to the money<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Email sent earlier \u2013 sent about half an hour ago<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Stewart \u2013 email sent about a new<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$500 for instruction for entrance course = open water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Student members pay $250 = 50%<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 15 ppl in the current class<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>12 in the pool<\/li>\n<li>3 in a separate class with the instructor (couldn\u2019t make Tuesday nights) ~ express class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Most expensive of the courses<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>There are advanced classes too but members have to pay full rates since it\u2019s quite reasonable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Advanced classes are cheaper than the entrance course<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stewart \u2013 very glad they came got all the information we needed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Lorrie was worried since Scuba had an event coming up soon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Inventory Tech<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Was in the office this week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Good 5 Cent Cigar<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Deficit of $24,000 dollars as of last year<\/li>\n<li>Last year, they only had $9,000 for stipend<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Under Holzman, they now have $20,000 for stipends<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They have required positions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Business Manager<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They don\u2019t collect debts for advertisers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Lorrie showed a big log of uncollected bills<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Cigar has not been good with collecting debts<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Last year they had a good accountant but still down $24,000<\/li>\n<li>We give them $90,000 every year<\/li>\n<li>Business Plan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Get the Newspaper to audit their accounts and see what they can collect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Weinreich \u2013 We should run it as a business not as a bailout happy bank<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Let\u2019s hear from them before we make a decision.<\/li>\n<li>Stewart &#8211;
