{"id":3653,"date":"2014-12-01T14:38:26","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T19:38:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/?p=3653"},"modified":"2014-12-01T14:38:26","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T19:38:26","slug":"soarc-11-12-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/soarc-11-12-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"SOARC 11-12-2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>M<\/strong><strong>EETING <\/strong><strong>S<\/strong><strong>TART <\/strong><strong>T<\/strong><strong>IME<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong>November 12, 2012<strong> | <\/strong>3:00 pm<\/p>\n<p><strong>A<\/strong><strong>TTENDANCE<\/strong><strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Berenato, Kappatos, McAteer, Sit, Weinreich, Pishdadian, Mendez<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABSENCES:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Excused: Blanchette<\/p>\n<p><strong>C<\/strong><strong>OMMITTEE <\/strong><strong>D<\/strong><strong>ISCUSSION<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>iScribe<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Former Chair Roy \u2013 didn\u2019t want to keep them as R because we may not have money in contingency for them<\/li>\n<li>Not about how much money they get as budget<\/li>\n<li>No matter what they will get a lot of money since publishing is expensive<\/li>\n<li>A very expensive publication<\/li>\n<li>They have little capacity to fundraise<\/li>\n<li>Matter of principle<\/li>\n<li>is the iScribe guaranteed to publish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 They didn\u2019t publish only 1 year<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 They had difficulty remaining active enough<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Silly to Penalizing them for something that happened 2 years ago<\/li>\n<li>Worried about setting precedent<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019ll work for this year to apply for contingency but if not enough money<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Passed : 5-1-0<\/p>\n<p>Sit \u2013 trivial nay since doesn\u2019t fit under Category S but fits M or R more so than S under the current 2012 bylaws.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Snowboarding Club<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does teach a skill<\/li>\n<li>Several members are certified teachers<\/li>\n<li>They\u2019re not paid because they are students<\/li>\n<li>Pishadian \u2013 I will not vote for anything but Category S<\/li>\n<li>Rental equipment isn\u2019t the only cost \u2013 Rental + lift ticket<\/li>\n<li>Instruction can\u2019t happen without equipment<\/li>\n<li>Roy, Kim, Bruce, do not remember a time that Snowboard and Ski Club was not a S<\/li>\n<li>Precedent, they were Category S<\/li>\n<li>If they aren\u2019t utilizing their budget for instruction, they aren\u2019t Category S<\/li>\n<li>If they provide benefits outside the group they are also Category S<\/li>\n<li>Says instructional not instructor<\/li>\n<li>The arguments are mostly technicalities<\/li>\n<li>The bylaws may contradict themselves<\/li>\n<li>Kyle Weinreich, \u201cI was wrong; you will only hear this once\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Passed: 6-0-0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Snowboard and Ski Club to be rerecognized as Category S<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bill to Pass Snowboard &amp;
