{"id":3819,"date":"2015-02-26T09:14:56","date_gmt":"2015-02-26T14:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/?p=3819"},"modified":"2015-02-26T09:14:56","modified_gmt":"2015-02-26T14:14:56","slug":"executive-2-24-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/executive-2-24-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Executive 2-24-2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Attendance: Bruce, Anderson, Boutmy, Cicero, Hetland, Kidd, Kilduff, King, Maynard, Patterson, Rode, Solomon, Yip, Zawatsky<\/p>\n<p>5:00<\/p>\n<p>Bruce:<br \/>\n&#8211; Updates:<br \/>\n&#8211; 2010 was when Student Senate unanimously voted to use tax dollars to fund the rock wall<br \/>\n&#8211; Lighting part of the fields was another matter voted on. $180,000 was allocated towards this but renovations have not occurred<br \/>\n&#8211; Meeting again March 10th to talk about lighting of the Tibet\u2019s field<br \/>\n&#8211; Jodi Hawkins is waiting to hear back from the lighting company to get a new quote<br \/>\n&#8211; Looking to find the least expensive way to do this project and will be taken care of completely by the end of the year<br \/>\n&#8211; The new Sailing Coach approached Bruce two weeks to discuss policies and procedures of Senate<br \/>\n&#8211; Trying to get the Club and Team to work more together<br \/>\n&#8211; Want to update 36 fleets: estimated to cost $385,000<br \/>\n&#8211; Going to start approaching alumni<br \/>\n&#8211; Want to start a matching program with our Tax Proportion Account to fund this project since the costs are high<br \/>\n&#8211; Our tax proportion account is healthy and we have been approached about being too fiscally conservative&#8230;<br \/>\n&#8211; This is a project for Senate to consider<br \/>\n&#8211; Sailing is open to all students and open year round; very good about paying Senate back for any loans= why we should consider helping<br \/>\n&#8211; Stipend Issue<br \/>\n&#8211; Bill going on floor this week<br \/>\n&#8211; Issue that needs to be squarely looked at: consistency and a way of putting a system in place<br \/>\n&#8211; IFC\/Panhel: we stipended these groups which are selective, which now creates a precedent<br \/>\n&#8211; Need to talk to IFC\/Panhel; leave the same amount in their budgets and move budgets to programming. Take care of the finances internally and then continue to figure out a fair\/equitable system for stipending<br \/>\n&#8211; Last semester, the bill written does not have an expiration date. The new bill will challenge this<br \/>\n&#8211; The original stipend bill lost because it said \u201cneeds to be inclusive,\u201d which was not agreed on by the Senate body<br \/>\n&#8211; NEED CRITERIA for stipending<br \/>\n&#8211; Currently, 7 groups get stipends, Senate being one of them<\/p>\n<p>Kidd:<br \/>\n&#8211; Next Tuesday is the Presidential Q&amp;A<br \/>\n&#8211; Mandated by By-Laws even if opponents are unopposed<\/p>\n<p>President:<br \/>\n&#8211; No longer have class on Saturday<br \/>\n&#8211; The Faculty Senate meeting was very successful especially since Faculty Senate did not want to have classes on Saturday either<br \/>\n&#8211; Also approved to give Faculty Executive Committee power to edit the Academic Calendar<br \/>\n&#8211; 48 hours before changes are made, an Open Forum has to occur<br \/>\n&#8211; Senate Pictures are Wednesday<br \/>\n&#8211; Formal is this Friday<br \/>\n&#8211; Want to put a couch in the office<\/p>\n<p>VP:<br \/>\n&#8211; Formal is coming up<br \/>\n&#8211; Need Commencement Speaker Applications<\/p>\n<p>SOARC:<br \/>\n&#8211; Met with MUSIC and SEC at last meeting<br \/>\n&#8211; SEC will come back in Fall or Spring but MUSIC probably won\u2019t<br \/>\n&#8211; Meeting with the Cigar Monday to discuss stipends for the editor<\/p>\n<p>Finance:<br \/>\n&#8211; Budgeting is going well<br \/>\n&#8211; Working on hidden expenses<br \/>\n&#8211; Report will be on the floor this week<br \/>\n&#8211; Secretary, DOC, DOM, and CIO stipends have gotten shaved back<\/p>\n<p>Treasurer:<br \/>\n&#8211; Stipends are out<\/p>\n<p>External<br \/>\n&#8211; Working on the Emporium issue (the guy)<br \/>\n&#8211; Contacted him and the guy said \u201cI don\u2019t care\u201d<br \/>\n&#8211; He wants to sell the spot<br \/>\n&#8211; Senate could make a deal with the university where we put Capital Improvement money to contribute towards creating a paved lot<br \/>\n&#8211; Only thing we can do is sue him due to his lack of caring<\/p>\n<p>Academic:<br \/>\n&#8211; Idea to work on facilitating Senate understanding of what goes on during meeting<br \/>\n&#8211; Want to see voting records so we can hold students more accountable<br \/>\n&#8211; Will allow us to look back at student votes<br \/>\n&#8211; Clicker system<br \/>\n&#8211; Shouldn\u2019t cost more than $2000<br \/>\n&#8211; Working with CIO Yip on this<\/p>\n<p>CIO:<br \/>\n&#8211; Working on projects<\/p>\n<p>Campus:<br \/>\n&#8211; Met with Facilities because people are having trouble getting around campus<br \/>\n&#8211; People with broken legs\/etc are supposed to call RIPTA to get picked up<br \/>\n&#8211; Scheduling a meeting to discuss the points that were made<br \/>\n&#8211; We signed another contract for the beginning of the year with RIPTA<br \/>\n&#8211; Want to advertise the services RIPTA provides (like services to South County Commons)<br \/>\n&#8211; Also want to make other information more accessible such as numbers to call, what Safe Rides is, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Cultural:<br \/>\n&#8211; Ace of Cakes went well!<br \/>\n&#8211; Raised $130 for Rhody Outpost<br \/>\n&#8211;
