{"id":5423,"date":"2016-03-14T08:57:25","date_gmt":"2016-03-14T12:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/?p=5423"},"modified":"2016-03-14T08:57:25","modified_gmt":"2016-03-14T12:57:25","slug":"exec-2-23-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/exec-2-23-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Exec 2-23-2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MEETING START TIME: <\/strong>6:30<\/p>\n<p><strong>ATTENDANCE: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Committee: <\/strong>Stuart, Boutmy, King, Ferrara, Oliver, Rode, Montecalvo, Glass, Patterson, Hetland, Stikeman, Anderson<\/p>\n<p><strong>Absent: &#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-Committee<\/strong>: Kraft, Donnelly, Bailey<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Athletic Director \u2013 Thor<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Football Stadium\n<ul>\n<li>Used 6 days a week in the fall and 2 days a week in the spring<\/li>\n<li>Idea proposal \u2013 Turf the stadium\n<ul>\n<li>The grass stadium doesn\u2019t allow for a lot of use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The grounds crew is recommending no more than 24 hours a week currently<\/li>\n<li>Turf could allow 18 hours a day and is better for bad weather<\/li>\n<li>Club sports, intermural sports, varsity sports, marching band, and student orgs could use the field (amongst others)<\/li>\n<li>College age students coming up is dwindling \u2013 this would be a good way to show off the school<\/li>\n<li>We could hold more events \u2013 championships, super bowls, etc.<\/li>\n<li>We could put this into admissions<\/li>\n<li>Outdoor concerts and music festivals<\/li>\n<li>Scheduled out when intermural sports, club sports, student orgs, football, and varsity athletics could block off practices<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s best to do it at the football stadium and not another stadium because of the seating and atmosphere and bathrooms, etc. offered.<\/li>\n<li>Field turf has a shelf life of 8-10 years and lighting would be offered<\/li>\n<li>Estimated cost in 2010 was $3.2 million; more recently the estimated cost is $3.8 million with a replacement cost in 10 years of $1.1 million<\/li>\n<li>All of the recreation offices are supporting this and willing to help with scheduling \u2013 belief that they are willing to take on this responsibility<\/li>\n<li>If this was endorsed, then it would have to go to the Council of Higher Education for their approval \u2013 it wouldn\u2019t be done without the support of the students<\/li>\n<li>Hopes to be brought to the Council of Higher Education right after he brings it to senate<\/li>\n<li>Concerns on access<\/li>\n<li>Construction would start in April and be done in August<\/li>\n<li>Revenue to CSIC \u2013 Most conferences occur at Brown<\/li>\n<li>Easy to maintain, whereas right now it takes a full day to paint the field<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>President<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Reach out to Jody<\/li>\n<li>Going to talk to Dean Labouti \u2013 CC Chairwoman Oliver<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Campus<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Committee \u2013 Surveying the student body on the football stadium<\/li>\n<li>Reach out to facilities about polling<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vice President<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Commencement Speaker got pushed back a week\n<ul>\n<li>We\u2019re reaching out to everyone that we can<\/li>\n<li>We\u2019re pulling social media, and other advertisements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Formal\n<ul>\n<li>We\u2019re working on buses<\/li>\n<li>Payment is due February 29<sup>th<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>CIO<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>I\u2019ve looked through transition material ideas<\/li>\n<li>Send that out tonight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cultural<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Wants five more teams for Ace of Cakes<\/li>\n<li>Tell groups about prizes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>SOARC<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>There are alternative stipend review times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Campus<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Anti-Sexual Assault Campaign<\/li>\n<li>Booth March 4 and March 7 from 11-2: Social Media Campaign<\/li>\n<li>Trying to have a sit-down meeting with organizations to talk about what we would like to see with the university as far as sexual assault goes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>External<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Meeting is Monday at 6<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Finance<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Final budgeting is coming up<\/li>\n<li>Doing the bill before spring break<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MEETING ADJOURNMENT TIME: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>7:33<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MEETING START TIME: 6:30 ATTENDANCE: Committee: Stuart, Boutmy, King, Ferrara, Oliver, Rode, Montecalvo, Glass, Patterson, Hetland, Stikeman, Anderson Absent: &#8211;
