Dedicated to getting conservative politician elected into government.<\/li>\n<li>Goals: Increase social media presence to help member retention: facebook, email list.<\/li>\n<li>RECOMMENDATION: UNFUNDED\n<ol>\n<li>Vote ( 8 &#8211; 0 &#8211; 1 )<\/li>\n<li>Need to attend senate meeting on <u>__February 8, 2017______<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stipend Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Student Senate<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Vice-president\n<ul>\n<li>Student Senate is the official voice of students of campus.\u00a0 Senate represents students through their committees.\u00a0 Senate recognizes groups to minimize liabilities.\u00a0 Allocate funds from student taxes to fund programming events.\u00a0 Senate has a working relationship with students and administration.<\/li>\n<li>Moderator of the student senate.\u00a0 Moderates all student senate general meetings.\u00a0 Follow Robert\u2019s Rules of Order and be mindful of all groups that attend the meetings.\u00a0 Does not have a vote, stays neutral on all topics.\u00a0 Speak in the absences of the president of the senate if necessary.\u00a0 Member of the executive committee.\u00a0 Maintains the records of senator attendance to maintain the vitality of the student senate.\u00a0 Serves as the organizer to the Scholarship and Commencement committees.\u00a0 Ensures that the senate complies will all the bylaws.\u00a0 Moderates internal senate disputes as an approachable person.\u00a0 5 required office hours a week. Fridays, meetings with Cathleen Collins to meet the needs of students and administrators. Organizes retreats for the student senate to help the organization flow better.\u00a0 Organizes new senator orientation to help their integration with the group.<\/li>\n<li>Necessary to stance in for the president\u2019s needs.\u00a0 Meeting administrators, sit on committees, leadership of organization, face of senate.\u00a0 Sits on summer senate to ensure that clubs are able operate during summer.\u00a0 Ensure that members are meeting the needs of senate and that senate is meeting their needs.\u00a0 Recruits new senators.<\/li>\n<li>Student Senate is vital to the campus as the official student voice.\u00a0 The President is the face of the senate and other executive members cannot take on the duties and responsibilities of the Vice-president.<\/li>\n<li>Election \u2013 declared for student senate.\u00a0 Was popularly elected.\u00a0 Results were uncontested for 3 days.\u00a0 Was sworn in.<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (5-0-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Cultural Affairs Chair\n<ul>\n<li>The cultural affairs committee is committed to building and maintaining a unified and inclusive campus committee.\u00a0 Serves as a liaison to multi-cultural student organizations.\u00a0 Uphold campus traditions.\u00a0 Outreach to the student body directly instead of through he student organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Check cultural complains box. Check for events that senate can promote for multiculturalism.\u00a0 Organizes senate events.\u00a0 3 office hours a week.\u00a0 Meets students and brings up important points to the president about how certain university offices can be improved.\u00a0 Attends and promotes events such as diversity week.\u00a0 Provides the student voice during critical committee meetings.\u00a0 Much busier when events are happening on campus.\u00a0 Met with the counseling center to discuss student complaints and researched funding options for extending hours for the counseling center.\u00a0 Will be attending budgeting meeting to discuss funding counseling center partnerships.<\/li>\n<li>Creating, improving, and maintaining campus traditions.\u00a0 Organizes Ace of cakes, Rhody Paws, Homecoming event, Diversity week events.<\/li>\n<li>Senate is required to be non-partisan.\u00a0 Cannot support certain events on behalf of the senate.<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (7-0-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>External Affairs Chair\n<ul>\n<li>The external affairs committee is concerned with persons and entities outside the university.\u00a0 Develop a working relationship with Narragansett in affairs concerning students.\u00a0 Goes to town council meetings, conducting cleanups.\u00a0 Deals with office of commuter complaints.\u00a0 3 office hours a week.\u00a0 Most of the work is done outside of the office.\u00a0 Goes to meetings with Narragansett police department.\u00a0\u00a0 Reached out to other nearby universities to see how they deal with housing ordinances.\u00a0 URI\u2019s commuter population is unique in that they live with their friends as opposed to commuting from their homes.\u00a0 Is an accessible resource for commuter complaints.\u00a0 Represented the student population at the Narragansett town council. URI has a commuter population of around 10 thousand students.\u00a0 Conducted a survey to gather student opinions on different matters.\u00a0 Desires to educate students on how to find housing.\u00a0 Plans on creating method for students to voluntarily register their parties with the local police department.\u00a0 Represents committee at the annual commuter housing affairs.\u00a0 Continues the position responsibilities over the summer and winter breaks.<\/li>\n<li>The chair and the committee are important to fully represent the off campus student population<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (7-1-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Finance Committee Chair\n<ul>\n<li>Oversees the budgeting process for all student senate recognized groups.\u00a0 Discusses and meets with groups to allocate funds during budgeting.\u00a0 Budgeting finances the events for student organizations Maintains and updates the finance handbook: budgeting and policies.\u00a0 Serves as the financial advisor for all student groups.\u00a0 5 required office hours a week.\u00a0 Holds signatory powers jointly with the president.\u00a0 During Presidents Meetings, talks about budgeting, signature cards, handbook changes, and finance training.\u00a0 Keeps records of all the contingency grants given to the groups. Drafts finance handbook changes over the summer.<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (7-0-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Chief Information Officer\n<ul>\n<li>Maintains the institutional memory of the Senate.\u00a0 Responsible for the integrity of the student senate\u2019s records and update transition material.\u00a0 Is a voting member of the senate executive committee.\u00a0 Maintains an up to date Student Senate Alumni Network.\u00a0 Maintains the record of liaison reports.\u00a0 Records the minutes of the general meetings and manages the weekly agenda.\u00a0 3 office hours weekly.\u00a0 Necessary for the transparency of the student senate and the institutional memory.<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (8-0-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Student Organization Advisory and Review Committee (SOARC) Chair\n<ul>\n<li>Act as an impartial arbiter for conflicts between student organization.\u00a0 SOARC is the primary face of student senate to student organizations.\u00a0 Voting member of student senate.\u00a0 Moderates monthly student organization presidents meetings.\u00a0 Reviews the monthly check-in meetings conducted by the committee.\u00a0 5 office hours weekly.\u00a0 Meets with students organizations during the office hours and continues checking emails with student organization outside office hours.\u00a0 Oversees recognition process for new student organizations and the annual re-recognition process.\u00a0 Develops and maintains the model constitution.\u00a0 Oversees and manages the annual stipend-review process.\u00a0 Committee reviews all organizations applying for recognition and recommends funding status.\u00a0 Continually examines and revises student organizations.\u00a0 Represents student organizations in all matters regarding the university.\u00a0 Updates the transition materials for the position.\u00a0 Acts impartially when there are conflicts between student groups and the student senate to ensure that voices are heard.\u00a0 Plans on creating a showcase for performing arts groups in the university.\u00a0 The committee is important to the creation and maintenance of student organizations.<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (8-0-0)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Committee recess: 5:06pm<\/p>\n<p>Committee re-convened: 5:19pm<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>President\n<ul>\n<li>Approves or vetos legislation.\u00a0 Chairs the executive committee.\u00a0 Appoints students to university committees to ensure that students are adequately represented.\u00a0 Hold signatory powers over internal accounts and student activities tax accounts.\u00a0 Can temporarily withhold stipends through a Rule&amp;Ethics complaint until the Rules&amp;Ethics committee considers such decision.\u00a0 Acts as the official representative of the senate.\u00a0 Facilitates communication between the student senate and the university administration.\u00a0 Sits on the summer senate.\u00a0 5 office hours per week.\u00a0 Without the office of the president, student senate would be required to meet every time a decision needed to be made without central leadership.<\/li>\n<li>Vote: (8-0-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Extra<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Presidents meeting next Monday at 7pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MEETING ADJOURNMENT TIME: <\/strong>\u00a05:52pm<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MEETING START TIME: 3:00 pm ATTENDANCE: Committee: Sam King, Eric Wang, Jen Scotti, Dan Bertel, Romanuel Percy, Dan Depetro, Natasha Nemeth, Austin Cordova, Austin Faria Absent: Michael Bachials Non-Committee: &nbsp;
