{"id":6251,"date":"2017-02-22T14:57:53","date_gmt":"2017-02-22T19:57:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/?p=6251"},"modified":"2017-02-22T14:57:53","modified_gmt":"2017-02-22T19:57:53","slug":"soarc-2-2-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/studentsenate\/soarc-2-2-17\/","title":{"rendered":"SOARC 2-2-17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>MEETING START TIME: 4:05 pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ATTENDANCE: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Committee: <\/strong>Sam King, Eric Wang, Jen Scotti, Austin Cordova, Romanuel Percy, Michael Bachials, Natasha Nemeth<\/p>\n<p><strong>Absent: <\/strong>\u00a0Dan Bertel, Austin Faria, Dan Depetro<\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-Committee<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stipend Review<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"minutes_text\"><strong>Student Senate<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"minutes_text\">Treasurer\n<ul>\n<li class=\"minutes_text\">Works with the senate\u2019s internal budged including the SOLC expenses line.\u00a0 Does 3 office hours a week.\u00a0 Pays office and other expenses.\u00a0 Record internal accounts on a monthly basis and prepares for future budgeting based on previous spending.\u00a0 Presents and prepares the internal budget.\u00a0 Consults with the president when funding internal events\/etc.\u00a0 Holds signatory powers with the president.\u00a0 Prepares budgets to present to the finance chair for annual budgeting.\u00a0 Differs from the finance chair by handling internal accounts rather than funding for other groups.\u00a0 The powers of the treasurer must be separate from the finance chair to maintain the separation of powers.<\/li>\n<li class=\"minutes_text\">Vote: (6-0-1)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"minutes_text\">Campus Affairs Chair\n<ul>\n<li class=\"minutes_text\">Works with student\u2019s rights, campus parking, student employment, health and safety, and athletics.\u00a0 In addition, looked at campus climate issues.\u00a0 Previous events include the Consent Required campaign.\u00a0 Hosts the Safety and Lighting Walk to check for adequate lighting, safety, and that the emergency call boxes are in good order.\u00a0 Holds 3 office hours weekly.\u00a0 Handles the campus complaints box and a RIPTA complaints box and addresses any outstanding issues.\u00a0 Chair sits on university committees to be aware of living conditions and changes in conditions.\u00a0 Meets with university directors to address campus issues.\u00a0 The committee is a place for students to air their complaints about campus rights without taking them directly to the university.\u00a0 Dealt with student\u2019s rights and met with URI police.\u00a0 Help students understand the resources they have on campus.\u00a0 Helped get camera\u2019s in dorm buildings to give students a sense of security and provide evidence of assaults and thefts.\u00a0 The position is important to handle student issues;
