EDC 436: Embracing the Digital Era in Early Childhood Education

Instructor: Houle,Kelly
This course explores the question posed by Faith Rogow (2022), “How have digital communication technologies changed what it means to be literate, and what do the changes in literacy mean for our practice as educators?” Intentional digital technology integration is less about ‘what’ tools to use but more about ‘how’ we use digital tools to engage, motivate, and build agency for young children. Prospective teachers will discover ways in which to intentionally incorporate developmentally appropriate digital technologies into instructional practices, uncover personal and professional biases towards digital technologies in early childhood settings, and move towards an educational perspective that centers on the most appropriate pedagogical practices for the diverse communities in which we work. (Lec. 3/Online) Pre: Admission to the College of Education or the Early Childhood Education Program, or by permission of instructor.
