Household tweezers just aren&#8217;t the right tool for proper tick removal. As you can see in the image, there&#8217;s a striking difference when compared to tick tweezers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfed adult ticks are about the size of an apple seed; nymph stage ticks are significantly smaller, about the size of a poppy seed. Disinfect the area<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Disinfect the tick-bite area with rubbing alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. With a pointy tweezer you should be able to grab the tick&#8217;s head or directly above the head.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Tickborne disease transmission is not possible without the tick&#8217;s body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Disinfect again<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the tick is removed, disinfect the tick-bite area again with rubbing alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Consider testing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have the tick removed, you should consider <a href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/tickencounter\/testing\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1448\">sending the tick to a lab<\/a> for testing of tickborne disease.
