Excellence, Support, and Belonging: Be a part of something big<\/h1>\n\n

URI recognizes that transfer students have a unique and valuable experience, for which they deserve recognition, and support. In our efforts to improve the services we provide to our transfer student population, URI joins the over 175 Universities nationally by establishing a Tau Sigma chapter.

Tau Sigma, a National Honor Society exclusive to transfer students<\/a>, provides its members opportunities to earn scholarships<\/strong>, attend leadership conferences,<\/strong> take leadership positions<\/strong> in the university, serve others<\/strong> at the university and in the community, all while developing friendships <\/strong>and becoming a more integral part of the University of Rhode Island!<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Membership Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  • Lifetime membership is by one-time invitation only<\/strong><\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • You must transfer to the University of Rhode Island from another academic institution with at least one full years\u2019 academic credits satisfied at the prior institution(s).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • You must be registered in a course of study leading to a bachelor’s degree and have completed a number of hours equal to an average full load for one term  (minimum 12 hours).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The minimum academic average required for membership is a 3.5 in the first full term semester at URI.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

    Dues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    Lifetime membership dues are $55. Of this, $45 supports the national society, with the remaining portion going to support transfer students through URI’s chapter and the cost of the membership mailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Objectives of URI’s Tau Sigma Chapter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Provide a common bond among URI’s transfer students.
    2. Provide motivation for the academic excellence of URI’s incoming transfer students.
    3. Enhance the reputation of URI’s transfer students.
    4. Promote the involvement of transfer students in URI.
    5. Form a group of students who can help URI address and meet the needs of incoming transfer students.
    6. Address the current lack of recognition of outstanding academic achievement of transfer students.<\/p>\n<\/div>
