We encourage faculty, staff and students to take advantage of on-campus shuttle service options that are provided as well as carpooling, ride sharing, Fuel Efficient Vehicles (FEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV) parking spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and Fuel Efficient Vehicles (FEV)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What qualifies an EV?<\/strong>&nbsp; EVs are&nbsp;vehicles that are either partially or fully powered on electric power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Electric Vehicle Charging Stations:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Kingston campus has 10 <a href=\"https:\/\/driver.chargepoint.com\/mapCenter\/41.4862328\/-71.53067879999999\/15?view=list\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/driver.chargepoint.com\/mapCenter\/41.4862328\/-71.53067879999999\/15?view=list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ChargePoint<\/a> electric vehicle (EV) charging spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These&nbsp;EV charging stations&nbsp;are located in&nbsp;the following parking lots: 1, 10, 22 and the Mallon Center lot. Please view the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/web.uri.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/904\/URI-KingstonCampusMap-Web-FINAL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">campus map&nbsp;<\/a> for specific&nbsp;information regarding&nbsp;EV Charger locations on the campus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Narragansett&nbsp;Bay campus has 12 <a href=\"https:\/\/driver.chargepoint.com\/mapCenter\/41.492189447753745\/-71.42087087602617\/17?view=list\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/driver.chargepoint.com\/mapCenter\/41.492189447753745\/-71.42087087602617\/17?view=list\">ChargePoint <\/a>electric vehicle (EV) and 2 Accessible (EV) charging spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These stations are located at the Pier Road parking lot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do I need to charge my vehicle if I am parked in an EV space?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, vehicles parked in these spaces MUST be actively charging. Any vehicle parked in an EV space not &nbsp;actively charging will be subject to a $35 citation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A valid university parking permit\/pass is required during hours of enforcement in these spaces as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do I need to pay to charge my EV?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 1, 2025, the Office of Energy Resources (OER) implemented a new Electric Vehicle Charging Station Cost Recovery Policy, in accordance <a href=\"https:\/\/webserver.rilin.state.ri.us\/Statutes\/title42\/42-140\/42-140-11.htm\">with Section 42-140-11 of the Rhode Island General Laws.<\/a>  On January 20, 2025, The University of Rhode Island will implement this policy which supports the sustainable operation and maintenance of EV charging infrastructure while promoting efficient use of charging stations for all users. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Charging Fees:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Level 2 Charging Stations:<\/strong>&nbsp;$0.28 per kilowatt-hour (kWh)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These fees will apply to all users\u2014including the URI\/state fleet, URI Faculty\/Staff, students, and the public\u2014at any charging stations located on the URI campuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Maximum Charging Period:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Users must move their vehicles after&nbsp;<strong>4 hours of charging<\/strong>&nbsp;to allow others access to the station. You will receive a notification from the ChargePoint app when nearing the 4-hour limit before any idle fees are charged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Idle Fees:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Level 2 Stations:<\/strong>&nbsp;$0.25 <strong>per minute<\/strong> after 4 hours of continuous occupancy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Fleet Vehicles:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fleet users will continue to use their ChargePoint cards as usual.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><br>Charging stations will display updated messaging about the new charging fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Etiquette for Shared\/Limited Equipment:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don&#8217;t charge if you don&#8217;t need to. Leave the spot free for another EV driver that might really need the charge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only occupy an EV charging spot while your car is being charged. When the charging session is completed, unplug, and move your car for another EV driver. Carpoolers benefit from saving money by sharing the cost of the permit and gas, access to priority parking areas, cutting emissions and reducing vehicle wear and tear. Our buses offer free Wi-fi, live GPS tracking, an onboard restroom, friendly drivers, and plenty of space for luggage. Our trips are for College Students Only which is just another reason for our popularity. URI parents have been spreading the word with social media hoping to gain more students to ride the bus as well. With more students riding, we can offer trips to more locations!
