[themify_box style=”uriblue rectangle” ]<\/span>MUMBAI MASALA<\/strong>[\/themify_box]<\/p>\n Sunday, October 4, 2015 at\u00a0<\/strong>4 p.m. <\/strong> “Mumbai Masala”<\/b>\u00a0is the Indian music\u00a0meets jazz group led by vocalist\u00a0Dhanashree Pandit-Rai<\/a>\u00a0and New York-based pianist\u00a0Richard Bennett<\/a>.\u00a0Beauty and pathos are emphasized in their modern interpretations of ancient song.\u00a0 Mumbai Masala has headlined the Mumbai and Kalaghoda festivals and performed other major concerts in Mumbai and Pune. Their first album Mumbai Masala<\/em> was released in January 2015 by \u00a0Times Music, India’s biggest record label.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [themify_box style=”uriblue rectangle” ]THUMRI RECITAL<\/strong>[\/themify_box] Originating against the majestic backdrop of the Mughal courts, Thumri arose as a semi-classical romantic song to entertain the nawabs and noblemen in the early 19th century Northern India. It later moved from the “<\/span>kothas” or salons of the courtesans to the main classical concert stage. Vocalist Dhanashree will be accompanied by Nitin Mitta on tabla. This concert will trace this journey of this cherished facet of Indian music and will cover a wide variety of the thumri repertoire.<\/span><\/p>\n
