Workplace Flexibility

WHAT IS IT? There may be times or situations during an employee’s life course where some adjustments in work schedule, whether minor, immediate, and short-term, or more standardized and long-term, would greatly facilitate an employee’s ability to meet his or her various life/family responsibilities. Learn more about workplace flexibility.

WHO BENEFITS? While these adjustments usually prove to be a win-win for both employee and employer, for a variety of reasons, it is important that any arrangements meet the needs of both parties.

HOW DOES IT WORK? The types of flexibility that are possible and appropriate for URI employees can differ depending on a variety of factors, such as the nature of the job, union contractual agreements, University policies, economic constraints, family or personal needs, and so on. A general variety of options that employees and supervisors might consider can be grouped into the categories listed below.

WHAT ABOUT ME? It is important to consider what your particular situation is, assess your needs, and determine what is possible within your department or unit. See What About Me? for more information.
