In cases where a regular faculty appointment was more appropriate than a Faculty Fellow, and if a high-quality female candidate was selected during a regular STEM faculty search, ADVANCE offered funding supplements to the new-hire’s start-up package in order to provide a more attractive offer. Offers included various combinations, including summer salary, course release, equipment match, lab set-up, etc. ADVANCE funding only supplemented what was normally offered for each position; departments contributed a standard URI package. ADVANCE continues to offer guidance to departments on best practices for the recruitment of underrepresented and women candidates.
Like the Faculty Fellows program, new STEM tenure-track faculty continue to be offered professional and personal development opportunities beyond the scope of the present faculty development, and are provided educational opportunities through seminars, training, and professional continuing education, including the ADVANCE workshops for existing faculty. Efforts to develop social networks and partner career assistance also continue to be offered.
