The primary mission of URI EMS is to respond to requests for emergency medical assistance at the University’s Kingston and Narragansett Bay Campuses. We respond to a wide range of calls such as for difficulty breathing, traumatic injuries, cardiac symptoms/chest pain to other illnesses or injuries. When such an emergency occurs, URI EMS is ready to respond.
URI EMS currently staffs one transporting ambulance 24 hours a day 7 days a week year-round. At least one licensed Rhode Island EMT and driver along with a Shift Supervisor form our normal minimum staffing. Throughout the year, we routinely have more staff available on hand if needed and we will staff additional personnel during major anticipated events (such as storms or other such incidents). We also have the ability to call additional staff on demand for unanticipated events (such as major incidents with multiple injuries, etc).
URI EMS is equipped to provide emergency assistance and transportation to a hospital ER facility where further advanced care can be delivered.
If you reside on campus or are a frequent visitor to campus and you wish to disclose information about a preexisting condition that may require specialized treatment, you may share that confidentially with our command staff.
